Working within a Project Engineer position, I was responsible for the design of the ancillary buildings of the power station including security, emergency preparedness and conventional structures. Previously in Horizon, I led the early design development of the associated development which includes the workers accommodation for up to 4000 persons, park and ride for 1900 vehicles and a logistics centres. Initially, I was working on the day to day project management of the highway improvement works required to facilitate the construction of Wylfa Newydd nuclear power station. I led the project from initiation to where an planning application will soon be submitted. I have also assisted with the detailed ground investigation; securing suitable warehouse facilities, implementing construction haul roads and utility supplies. I have completed the early site meteorological hazard assessment and topographical study.
The nucleargraduates scheme is a two year programme consisting of four placements. January 2010 – April 2010 (Placement): Idaho National Laboratory My major piece of work involved researching the effects of blast loading and incident peak over-pressure on aged and irradiated concrete. June 2009 – December 2009 (Placement): RWE npower/Horizon Nuclear Power Working within UK Nuclear development group, I was involved in assessing potential sites for new nuclear power stations across the UK following the 2008 energy white paper. December 2008 – June 2009 (Placement): Magnox South Ltd, Sizewell A I worked alongside the site Civil Engineer and was predominantly involved with structural studies of plant modification proposals. Usually a part of a project team, I worked closely with other team members to achieve targets and goals. May 2008 – November 2008 (Placement): Sellafield Ltd The Civil, Structural and Architectural team was involved with smaller projects across Sellafield that required a quick turnaround enabling me to me to gain experience of all project stages.
