I created this role in the information technology department in order to align and optimize computer management globally in the company. I built an international and multi-cultural team with the following mission : • Engineer, develop and maintain Rio Tinto standard Desktop solutions. • Deliver and support Rio Tinto standard computer image • Operate inventory, software deployment, patch management, operating system distribution, application packaging on worldwide scope (48000 Computers) In addition, 10 people in different countries are functionally reporting to me to implement our standard desktop solutions worldwide. The main challenges were : • To convince my management that this role was required to improve services and reduce costs • Work with regional teams to sell and implement the new global service model • Change the organization to optimize resource usage and implement worldwide accountability The key achievements are : • Global desktop solution is now standard for the entire fleet • The entire desktop fleet is under control • Full security compliance is achieved for 95% of the computer fleet • We now have the capability to execute global deployments of software seamlessly • Desktop operating costs have been reduced by 27%
