I am a dedicated healthcare professional currently serving as a Phlebotomist, blending previous clinical experience with a strong academic background. I hold a Master's degree in Bioethics and Medical Humanities from Case Western Reserve University, complemented by a Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience and Biology from Carthage College. Throughout previous employment and education, I have developed exceptional skills in time management and organization, leading to an exceptional ability to conduct thorough research. My experience in healthcare settings has equipped me with a deep understanding of patient care and ethical considerations in medical practice. Driven by a passion to continously learn and serve my greater community, I aspire to further my education by attending Physician Assistant school. I will graduate in the fall of 2027.
Under the orders of the treating physician, I explained and administered transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and ultrasound therapies to the daily caseload of the practice, often exceeding 35 patients per day. Moreover, I assumed the role of facilitating communication between patients, other healthcare professionals, insurance entities, and legal representatives in cases pertaining to personal or workplace injuries.
I was tasked with research aimed at supporting various initiatives at MetroHealth Medical Center. This included conducting thorough literature reviews to inform ongoing projects, gathering relevant statistics for use in public and departmental presentations, and writing research briefs for weekly meetings for department leaders. Through literature reviews, I helped ensure that hospital practices remained informed by the latest findings and developments in the field for direct benefit to patient care and hospital culture.
Under the direction of nursing staff, physician assistants, or physicians, I provided direct, constant observation to one or more patients at a time with the overall goal of fostering a safe patient environment. I aided in ambulation, feeding, dressing, bathing, and grooming as well.
This was a multifaceted role. As a tutor, I provided support to neuro students, offering guidance and academic help as needed. Within the rodent lab, I took charge of animal husbandry and executed open-field testing and single lever press foot shock protocols. I also taught practical skills to students, specifically techniques such as brain extractions, cresyl violet tissue staining, cryostat/frozen stage sectioning, and tissue mounting. In the zebrafish lab, I prepared the lab for immunohistochemistry testing, including the dilution of antibodies and tissue fixation for microscopy analysis.
My primary responsibility involved the preparation of laboratory equipment and chemicals for weekly experiments. I served as a resource for students during lab sessions, offering help or clarification on procedures, concepts, chemicals, and instrumentation. After each lab session, I undertook the responsibility of overseeing the safe disposal of chemicals per established protocols. Additionally, I would help students process and analyze their lab samples by running proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), carbon NMR, and infrared spectroscopy tests.
As a student ambassador, I would showcase Carthage College's attributes and academic experiences to prospective students and their families. Through campus tours and proctoring scholarship competition exams, I provided insights into the academic and extracurricular opportunities available at the college, helping prospective students make informed decisions about their educational journey. In my capacity as a student orientation leader, I extended a warm welcome to new students and their families during move-in days, helping to ensure they had a more positive start to their college experience.
