London Area, United Kingdom
I am a crude trader responsible for supply of crude into 2 of BP’s European refineries. On the physical side I source crude from around the world to maximise margin of these assets, I manage paper positions to grow and protect value further. I’ve been in this role since 2018 and seen a lot of market cycles, from the growth of US sweet exports, Libya going to FM, Urals being contaminated, MARPOL, Covid, Ukraine. This gives me a very level head when things get heated. Prior to my current role I worked for 4 years at bp’s Rotterdam refinery as a crude scheduler and then refinery LP planner, before moving to a refinery economist in London to do economics for crude purchasing. So I have worked across the commercial space in refining and crude trading, this gives me a solid background in operational and commercial aspects - both essential to successful crude supply into refineries. I joined BP, after completing my PhD in Chemistry at Oxford. Prior to that I did a Chemistry undergrad where I graduated top of my class at Oxford. This gives me the knowledge to understand the chemistry at the heart of the oil industry, which I can use to challenge the technical experts so we get the best commercial outcome. Outside of work I am a keen cook, and a lover of the countryside. I enjoy returning to my parents' farm as often as I can, especially helping out at harvest time.
Following a successful 16-year career at BP, I’m taking a structured sabbatical focused on rest, renewal, and personal development. This time is allowing me to broaden perspective and prepare for my next senior role within the energy trading sector.
Responsible for economic evaluation of crude and feedstock purchases for BP's Rotterdam Refinery.
I was a Summer Intern in Equities Research in the the UBS Equities Chemicals team. This taught me economic analysis of companies, how to model their future earnings, and evaluate their share price for buy/sell/hold recommendations.
