This project represents a fundamental shift in the security posture, engineering practices, and operational model for $1.5B business. Put together a team and built Microsoft Cosmos DB compute layer that exposes Gremlin, Cassandra, Etcd, and MongoDB API. The key focus areas were observability, resource governance, and engineering craftsmanship. Built, stabilized, and scaled Microsoft Azure SQL DB Control Plane that serves millions of server, database, and elastic pool provisioning requests. Led engineering effort to remove a single global metadata store and upgrade Control Plane into the regionally distributed share-nothing system. Built and released high-density Elastic Pools as a product from the relational store through control plane and UI. Led standardization of API surface area for Azure SQL DB and alignment with Azure Resource Manager as well as retirement of legacy API.
Lead a team of engineers working on SQL Azure frontend and associated service provisioning workflows. Built robust world-wide SQL Azure monitoring system that detects outages within 15 minutes across multiple services within Windows Azure ecosystem.
