Alta Devices was a developer of thin film III-V photovoltaics. We manufactured ultra-lightweight flexible modules and held certified world records in cell and module efficiency. I led manufacturing yield, reliability, and performance projects. Filed five patents with applications in thin film deposition, performance, and metrology. Created multiple computer vision algorithms to automatically identify and screen for defects.
Developed the first epitaxial growth of single crystal films of lead bromide perovskites. Directly measured diffusion length and carrier lifetime in single crystal n-type and p-type methylammonium lead halide perovskites, showing the material could compete with GaAs on power conversion efficiency. Managed multiple successful synchrotron and neutron scattering experiments at national fa- cilities, highlighting the unique structure and dynamics confronting lead halide perovskites.
Developed a PbSe quantum dot (QD) solar cell that demonstrated multiple exciton generation (MEG), with external and internal quantum efficiency (EQE and IQE) peaking well over 100%. This work resulted in one patent, a Science paper, and many news reports.
