I lead multiple engineering teams building Atlassian’s Kubernetes platform. My teams ensure the platform performs reliably at scale — enabling us to create and operate Kubernetes clusters across Atlassian’s global infrastructure. One of my teams, MKR, helps product teams seamlessly provision multicloud (GCP and AWS) backing resources in a standardized, secure, scalable, and cost-effective way. PaaS Scale is a brand new team to ensure platform is capable of performing at high scale considering Atlassian organic growth. Building a brand new team in Cloud Infrastructure Org, setting up the right culture, process and tools in place and forming a high performance team from the scratch was an interesting experience from the beginning and still a long journey to go.
Atlassian has an internal Platform-as-a-Service that we call Micros. It is a set of capabilities that enable Atlassian engineers to deploy and operate services in AWS as quickly, easily, and safely as possible. The platform hosts over 1,000 services. The majority of Atlassian Cloud products are either partly or fully hosted on Micros. Micros is our orchestration system for automating the management, placement, scaling, and routing of containers. It uses the concepts of configuration-as-code, and immutable infrastructure, and encourages the design principle of Twelve-Factor Apps, which, when followed properly, yield more scalable and operationally mature systems. Micros is used for websites, as well as internal and external application services. I lead a development team that delivers high scaled web applications. A major part of my job is people management and team building where I significantly enjoy it. I have also the responsibility for the system design and architecture to ensure we deliver a high-quality product while I meet the deadline. I work closely with the developers, UX designers, product managers, IT managers and stakeholders to ensure I understand the product, customers’ needs, system requirements and MVP features which can be quickly shipped to the market. I communicate and work closely with vendors like cloud providers, identity providers, digital agencies and consultants to ensure we get what we need from the vendors and build a great collaborative relationship. I am accountable for the project delivery and how we apply the best software engineering governance inside my team to achieve deeper digital transformation and innovative solutions. Building effective teams, empowering and mentoring them to achieve their goals is my main focus. Challenger is focused on providing Australians with financial security in retirement. All the services has been done through the website which was on Reddot and due to the digital transformation the website has been moved to Sitecore. As part of this journey I am in charge of providing the right path and decisions for the design and tools for the frontend side of the Sitecore CMS website and leading frontend devs. Involved in delivering CMS website from the scratch for Challenger using technology stacks including Sitecore, Asp.net Mvc, Javascript ES6, SASS, Gulp, Webpack, jquery, bootstrap, Vue.js, CI/CD and Gitbucket. Also I am part of digital transformation journey for the company which is an interesting experience. The team is on Agile scrum along with all ceremonies including standup, grooming, planning, retro and etc.
Responsibilities: - I took the lead to build the NRMA and Thrifty websites using cutting edge technologies to build Cloud-based Microservice Serverless APIs, SPA customer-facing website, DevOps pipeline and Infra as code. - I was communicating and managing with a remote team in China who was part of the project - The CMS based websites are hosted at http://www.mynrma.com.au/ also www.thrifty.com.au using technology stacks including Sitecore/MVC, Serverless AWS Lambda API, NodeJs, ES6, SASS, Gulp, Webpack, Jquery, CI/CD Jenkin and Github. - I was responsible to make sure the information and technical knowledge flow is fluent across the team therefore I was running some sharing sessions called Brownbags inside the company to share my knowledge with the broader team
