I am a fresh clinical pharmacy graduate, passionate about delivering evidence-based patient care and optimizing therapeutic outcomes. Throughout my training, I have gained hands-on experience in both community and hospital pharmacy settings, as well as some glimpse from pharmaceutical industry and PV in particular with a special interest in clinical pharmacy practice. I have completed certification in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and participated in multiple hospital rotations as a clinical and hospital pharmacy trainee.
I have Participated in management of different solid tumors (Ewing sarcoma, Osteosarcoma, and neutoblastoma) and haematological malignancies mainly AML and ALL. I managed to navigate electronic health records under the supervision of preceptors working there to help and guide in extracting relevant patient information. I have attended rounds with physicians and clinical pharmacists working there in different floors or departments.
During this round I dealt with different cases in the CCU and managed different acute and chronic cardiovascular disorders. I learnt about different diseases from ESC and AHA guidelines. I managed to follow up different patients from date of admission till discharge. I learnt to manage acute conditions like acute decompensated heart failure ADHF, AFib with RVR, ACS, and pulmonary embolism. I also learnt how to manage chronic conditions like HFrEF, HFpEF, HFmrEF, atrial fibrillation, hypertension, and chronic coronary syndrome CCS.
I managed to dispense medications for ward patients and discover medication errors if any is prescribed in the patient's medication order. I also managed to learn about the stability of the medications specially antibiotics and how to store them as well as there stability after reconstitution.
I have gone through this fruitful experience with just an amazing clinical pharmacy team. Reviewing cases, their past medical history, their medications, their current medical condition, and assessment of the case are crucial part in clinical pharmacy. I learnt more about TBI management, intraabdominal infection, skin and soft tissue infection, and burn management regarding nutrition, fluid resuscitation and maintenance, and how to manage hypermetabolic response syndrome.
Here I had a journey through different central administrations, and several general administrations and units within the EDA. Each of the 6 pillars gave a capsule of certain central administrations in the EDA with a glimpse of the role of some general administrations and units subdivided from them. I also learned how to navigate the EDA website, which is a valuable gem to guide you through different guidelines regarding product registration, certifications required to register a medical device or in vitro diagnostic, and many other purposes. This website is a true gem even to the public. Awareness should be raised among the public to report suspected adverse event, even a violation in promotional, educational, and awareness materials can be reported through this website.
During this internship I didn't only learn pharmacotherapeutic aspects through theoretical means but also from practical point of view by discussing cases in wards and ICUs. introduction to clinical pharmacy, medication errors, HF related acquired pneumonia, types of pneumonia, sepsis, DKA, and role of clinical pharmacy in ward surgical patients all these topics were discussed. I also had a round in the neonatal ICU discussing some basics of neonatology.
It was one of the best clinical pharmacy experience ever. I engaged with the best clinical pharmacy team and mentors were absolutely competent, updated, and qualified to teach their interns in a very efficient way. The most updated guidlines were discussed fir hypertension, atrial fibrillation, and infective endocarditis. we also engaged with miscellaneous cases of various conditions in different rounds. NICU and gynecology round was stuffed with information related to woman health and safe medications during pregnancy. NICU part was concerned with neonates' health, how to keep oxygen supply and control temperature and humidity, and how to identify and treat jaundice. Antimicrobial stewardship was a part of this internship we encountered how the process of antimicrobial dispensing was controlled specifically for reserved class of antibiotics.
