Helsinki, Uusimaa, Finland
After 8 very rewarding years as Chief Curator and Head of the Villa Gyllenberg Art Museum I am now working as an independent Arts Manager and Curator. The Historic House and Art Museum Villa Gyllenberg has developed immensely during these years and is today one of the most appreciated actors in the evolving Museum field in Finland. It is time for me to bravely end a project and test my wings. I am ready for future challenges as an Arts Manager and Independent Curator. I hope to able to work as an Curator with Exhibitions, Art book Projects and different Art Management tasks. I also write about Art in catalogues and newspapers and is an experienced presenter.
I am researching for the Doctoral Thesis at the Åbo Akademi Art History Department. My field is Finnish and Scandinavian Male Portraits around 1910-1930's when Modernity was introduced. I am especially looking for the Role of the Dandy in the Artist's and their Paintings and Portraits.
The Exhibition Karin och Carl Larsson, Swedish Style 25.2.-10.5.2020 (due to the corona-situation in the Helsinki region the exhibition was prolonged to 31.8.2020) displays the paragon of the Artist Home Lilla Hyttnäs in Sundborn Village in Dalarna, Sweden. The artistry of Karin and Carl Larsson has been re-created with antique furniture from the period and also with new furniture productions of the popular Carl Larsson-style. The interior design-style spread to Finland through the Carl Larsson book Ett hem (A Home) that was published in 1899. The same year Carl Larsson painted the watercolour Lisbeth and cherryblossom. The painting was lost in the States for over 100 years, found again and sold at an Auction in 2013. The painting is now displayed at the Exhibition, it has never been shown publicly before in Finland. The Exhibition is curated by Nina Zilliacus. https://www.hanaholmen.fi/event/karin-carl-larsson-kodin-lampo/ https://www.hanaholmen.fi/sv/event/karin-carl-larsson-svenskt-mys/ https://www.hanaholmen.fi/sv/kulturcentrum/pressrum/
I was appointed Chief Curator for Villa Gyllenberg Art Museum in November 2010. The Museum is part of the Signe and Ane Gyllenberg Foundation. The Museum is the former home of the Banker Ane Gyllenberg, beautifully situated in the outskirts of Helsinki. The Collection was formed during his lifetime and mainly consists of Finnish Art by the foremost Finnish Artists; the Collection of Helene Schjerfbeck's paintings (37) is the largest Privately owned. The Museum also has some exquisite Italian Renaissance Masters among them Tizian, Tintoretto and Domenico Puligo. The new Gallery was designed by one of Alvar Aalto's pupils Per-Mauritz Ålander in 1980. Concert's and other events are arranged there every year.
My main task was to serve the Finnish Clients in both selling and buying Art from the International Art Market. I followed the Art market very closely for 5 years. I worked in close contact with the other Scandinavian Office's and the 19th Century paintings team in London.
