While I have always been a writer, I considered it a personal experience. Something I kept to myself. Because of the personal meaning writing had to me, my professional interest always leaned towards the visual aspect of rhetoric. I thought I had to tell a story visually for it to be the most impactful. It wasn’t until later that I was able to appreciate writing’s true meaning: storytelling. I was able to appreciate that writing connects us all through experiences, language, and stories. During my time as a double major in Writing & Rhetoric, and Communication at St. Edward’s University, a few of my articles were published in the school newspaper– Hilltop Views. Amongst other things, my contribution to Hilltop Views taught me the importance of telling real stories. Stories unique, and personal of real people that make up communities. In finding out who I was, and understanding what true storytelling means to me I value authentic voices, and stories within communities. Through my work I aim to emphasize that everyone has a story that deserves to be told. Although not every voice or story gets to be heard, I have made it my mission to help elevate those voices and stories of people who deserve to be known. I have crafted the ability to tell others stories and share their voices because at the end of the day the most meaningful stories are authentic, and connect one another within our communities.
