About

I am a teacher-qualified graduate [B.Sc., P.G.C.E., M.Sc., Pg.Dip., B.A. | DfE No. 78/48075 - QTS awarded 9th August 1979], of physical sciences, technology, engineering, scientific computing, mathematics & statistics, with experience of teaching, tutoring, mentoring, technical writing & occasional technical consultancy, spanning more than thirty five years. The educational work has mainly been individual or small-group tutoring, in these and/or related disciplines, for secondary, tertiary, further and higher education, plus a variety of public-service entry tests and professional examinations; but I have also taught in local colleges of further & tertiary education. I have been a regular author of automotive technical articles since 1996, and a regular contributor on automotive / motoring on-line forums since the early 21st Century Prior to this, I was a practitioner in industry for many years, concerned mainly with research, development, testing, consultancy and training, pertaining to general building physics and building services engineering, with particular emphasis on HVAC, heat transfer, thermal insulation and acoustics; which also later included client liaison and active BSI technical committee participation (re thermal transmission standards and related Building Regulations Approved Documents), as section leader, in a commercial technical-services laboratory. Since I was a teenager, I have been involved in DIY maintenance, repair, modification & upgrade work, to my family's homes and motor vehicles, some of which is documented in the "Projects" section.

Provide individually tailored tuition, as required, for GCSE, GCE "A, AS & A2" Levels, BTEC ONC/D & HNC/D, B.A., B.Sc., B.Eng., professional examinations (e.g. banking, building society, insurance, accounting, commercial flying), etc. Build student self confidence. Advise on learning, study, revision and examination techniques. Promote understanding of fundamental concepts and techniques. Sporadic work, with no more than one or two students per week, during the period 1978 to 1991, owing to demands of other study and work commitments. Progressively increased tuition workload after 1991, as training & technical consultancy work from SGS Yarsley declined, and the 1990s' economic recession worsened. Approved assistant examiner of International GCSE Physics, with the University of Cambridge Examinations Syndicate, since 1996. Approved tutor, under the Ford EDAP scheme (education, training & health related programmes) since 2002, for the Ford Motor Company, Cape New Holland Tractors (formerly Ford tractor division) & Visteon UK (formerly Ford cooling-system radiator division); involved mainly in providing supplementary tutorial support, in Mathematics, Control Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, for employees, studying for the day-release B.Eng. in Manufacturing Systems Engineering (see Projects), at the University of East London. During the past 30+ years, I have tutored circa 35~40 university students, in mostly mathematics, statistics, engineering and related disciplines, for courses in physical & biological sciences, engineering, mathematics, economics, international finance, business studies and computer-graphic art (see Projects).
