Stem cells have the extraordinary ability to maintain differentiated cell populations by dividing and generating new cells. Unfortunately, these same qualities that stem cells possess in respect to growth and survival are also found in cancer (stem) cells. This project seeks to elucidate physiological molecular pathways and mechanisms that regulate stem cell homeostasis and how these 'stemness' regulating pathways become dysregulated in conversion to a malignant state in melanoma.
