About

I lead the Stanford Social Ecology Lab, where we address urgent sustainability challenges through interdisciplinary social science research that bridges theory and practice. As an Associate Professor in Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability's Environmental Social Sciences Department, I've spent over 20 years exploring how communities, conservation, and learning create lasting change. My work spans the full lifecycle: designing rigorous research, evaluating outcomes, shaping philanthropic strategy, and building programs with on-the-ground impact. My lab is motivated by one question: How might we develop research-based solutions that create transformative change for people and the planet?
