HCPC-registered Orthotist/Prosthetist with over 20 years of experience specialising in complex lower-limb trauma rehabilitation, limb salvage, and advanced orthotic intervention. Recognised for introducing passive dynamic bracing systems into UK clinical practice, I was the first UK clinician trained by the US military rehabilitation team in IDEO™ bracing and have trained clinicians both nationally and internationally. My career spans clinical practice, research, innovation, and leadership across NHS, military, private rehabilitation, and industry settings. I have led the development of advanced orthotic technologies, contributed to published research, and worked extensively with military personnel, veterans, paraathletes, and individuals recovering from life-changing injuries. I am passionate about combining evidence-based practice, innovative technology, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation to help people maximise mobility, independence, and quality of life.
- Contributed and developed new orthotic product ideas, providing clinical specification requirements to the engineering team. - Advised R&D team on Orthotic technical issues - Provided technical authority for Blatchford globally in relation to technical orthotic matters. - Assisted in the creation of clinical documentation, marketing material and training for the launch of new products. - Clinically managed orthotic patient product trials. - Provided orthotic technical support towards the industry/business transition to MDR
- Part of the complex trauma IDT team responsible for providing a world class rehabilitation service to injured members of HM armed forces. - Extensive experience in the provision of cutting edge orthoses such as dynamic composite AFO's to enable high activity and mechanical, electronic and microprocessor KAFO's. - Experience in the use of Vicon gait analysis to aid patient assessment and fine tuning of orthotic prescriptions. Use of the Footwork Pro Pressure Plate. - Only clinician in the UK to be trained by the US military rehabilitation team who created the IDEO. First clinician in the UK to implement this style of bracing into clinical practice. - Key member of the Blatchford team who commercially launched the Momentum in the UK. - Trained over 50 UK Orthotists as well as the Dutch military in the provision of Passive Dynamic AFO's/ Dynamic GRAFO's.
- Responsible for the overall account management and clinical service delivery for 3 large prosthetic contracts and 10 orthotic clinics spanning across 5 NHS trusts in the south east of England. - Directly line managed 3 prosthetic centre managers and 8 orthotists, with role split approximately 60% managerial and 40% clinical time. - Key involvement in the management, retention and winning of new prosthetic and orthotic service contracts in the UK - Lead presentations when tendering for new business and assisted in the completion of tendering documentation - KPI reporting to senior management to drive financial forecasting for the business - Provided first line support for NHS Managers, assisting in the management of complaints and contractual requirements. - Responsible for all aspects of clinical governance for Blatchford’s contracts in the South East - Provided orthotic clinical leadership within the team and ensured the clinical team were performing to the highest clinical standards
- Providing a general adult and paediatric orthotic service to both private and government funded patients. -Manufacturing skills developed as I had to manufacture all my own custom insoles. - Delivering Orthotic services to rural community hospitals
- Part of an NHS Inhouse team of 6 Orthotists and 4 on-site orthotic technicians working in an acute setting -Gained expertise in custom spinal bracing predominantly for trauma management and post operative use. This included the fitting of HALO braces whilst patients remained on traction. - Management of CTEV using the Ponseti method fitting foot abduction braces (AFO's and boots and bar) - Responsible for key specialist clinics including a consultant led foot and ankle clinic and providing orthotic expertise to a 25 bed specialist neurological rehabilitation unit (Lindon Lodge).
