Member of the Scientific Panel, appointed by the European Commission to support the implementation and enforcement of the AI Act's rules for General-purpose AI models and General-purpose AI posing systemic risks. The Scientific Panel is an expert advisory body established by the European Commission in accordance with Article 68 of the AI Act in conjunction with Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/454. 60 world-class independent AI experts have been recruited to join the AI Act Scientific Panel. These leading technical experts' core responsibilities include alerting the AI Office to systemic risks, advising on GPAI classification and evaluation methodologies and supporting market surveillance activities. The selected experts contribute with their expertise across a broad range of areas, including GPAI capability evaluation, risk assessment methodologies, technical risk mitigations, misuse/deployment risks, cyber offence risks, provider cybersecurity, emergent systemic risks, and compute measurement. The experts are appointed to the panel for a 24-month term, renewable, in personal capacity. Most experts work in academia, while others work in organisations linked to the public sector, independent research, or civil society. Study, monitor and advise on European developments in the legislative framework surrounding AI and general-purpose AI systems, in particular on the EU AI Act, standard-setting and designing governance mechanisms for effective enforcement of AI regulations.
• In charge of processes, digital systems, governance, audits, HR, finances and operations management strategy for a team of 15 collaborators and a community of ~70 volunteers. • Pivoted the organization's funding model in response to COVID19 through creation of a suite of tools for pricing, payscale, bizdev, cashflow management, staffing and portfolio management for better strategic and organizational visibility. • Managed and compiled insights from strategy consultants, fundraisers, auditors, teammates, board members and contractors to deliver clear & actionable strategic recommendations to executive leadership in response to COVID19. • Set up the finance and HR functions, built the accounting & bookkeeping systems, successfully led the first two annual financial audits of the organization. • Produced 3 high-level conferences on the governance of AI gathering each between 100 and 250 experts from government, academia, civil society and industry.
This project aims to be a rigorous source of expert opinion on the future of AI, and identifying accurate, policy-relevant predictions on the trajectory of AI.
