• Insightful reporting and analysis of the technology P&L and balance sheet. Provide understanding of key cost drivers and influence commercial decisions taken to improve performance • Deliver improved cashflow management and forecasting • Improve spend process to ensure all spend is robustly challenged and delivers benefit to M&S. • Ownership of quarterly, annual and long range financial plans including process management, analysis and commentary. Ensure full buy-in and ownership from stakeholders, influencing the setting and delivery of stretching & achievable targets • Create relationships with the finance teams in the Group function and the Clothing & Home and Food businesses units, communicating the financial position and driving a ‘no surprise’ culture • Working with the Group’s shared service centre, enhance the existing controls and processes to develop an efficient and effective control environment, including management of the Group’s capital investment programme and fixed asset register • Lead, develop and motivate team to support delivery of all agreed objectives in a way that is aligned to our corporate values
• Set up financial function of business • Implementation of accounting policy, internal and external financial reporting, financial analysis and internal controls and procedures. • Financial modelling. • Leading in financial operations of the company including reporting, forecasting, invoicing and cash management, accounts payable / receivable and payroll. • Leading the monthly accounting close ensuring timelines, accuracy, completeness and compliance. • Tax compliance including income tax, VAT and corporation tax. • Preparation of forecasts of future performance of the business. • Preparation of annual budgets • Directing the implementation of new processes and controls and the implementation of new systems.
• Managing whole process of the audit from start to completion of many listed and other high profile commercial and not-for-profit clients. • Fee negotiations with clients, day to day and overall job budgeting, WIP management, timely invoicing and cash collection to meet quarterly cash targets on budgets of up to £1.5m. • Staff resourcing, appraising staff performance and coaching junior team members. Liaising with staff in other departments for an overall efficient audit. • Provision of technical advice to clients, reporting to management and engagement partners on key issues, identification and resolution of audit risks. • Communication of financial matters and control environment to client board of Directors including those with non financial backgrounds • Focussing on the retail and services sector, working with, and managing large teams of between 5 - 20 people • Key projects undertaking in recent years include FTSE100 demerger and listing, FTSE 250 refinancing and other significant corporate transactions.
