About

“What we want is an Economy that serves the Community. What we have is a Community that serves the Economy." Nō Ingarangi au; nō Ingarangi, nō Orkney, nō Pōrana hoki ōku tīpuna. Ko Scafell Pike tō mātou maunga, ko Tees te awa, ko North Sea te moana. Ka rere āku mihi nui ki ngā tūtohu whenua me ngā tangata whenua o Te Matau a Māui e noho nei au. Born in London, I spent my early years in economic migrant communities in Hong Kong and Seoul, before doing high school and ag college in Kent in England. I studied Sustainable Land Management and International Agriculture, so I’m a councillor that can bridge the urban-rural divide. I’m a working dad, and I’ve done everything from tractor driving and landscaping to running pubs and illustrating history books to pay the bills. I moved to Hastings with my family in 2016 to work in the wine industry, and since then I’ve mostly worked on the tools for a native habitat restoration contractor, a landscaping firm, and two residential construction firms: one building high-performance passive houses and one retrofitting state houses to Healthy Homes standards. More recently, I worked for a local charitable trust, delivering essentials like furniture and bedding on behalf of social workers, community nurses, and other frontline workers. I chose to run for Council because I love Heretaunga Hastings: it’s the place that I’m proud to call home, and it’s the place that my kids will always call home. My fields of interest and expertise include: Environmental, Social and Tiriti Justice Decent Work, Fair Pay, and a Just Transition to the economies of the future Climate Change adaptation and mitigation Municipal Waste Management Sustainable Land Management
