In order to offer the best and more often creative, valued based solutions, BGB uses insights from our Clients, Markets and the wider Technological advances whilst working with a wide partnership pool. The Products and Services team has a diverse range of specialisms including R&D, Design, Product Integration, Costing and Testing and Validation. To meet delivery expectations of our clients and to support R&D’s performance, we deploy and manage programmes via appropriate ISo and APQP Standards. Operating on the business, Strategic considerations and developments also come from a wide range of inputs. With a view on the Clients and Markets needs coupled with a deep appreciation of complementary Technologies, BGB can study and work within harmonising Strategies, such as Servitization and the Circular Economy. BGB is a forward thinking and progressive business that is supported with a clear purpose wrapped around a tremendous behavioural set.
Established in 1976, BGB has successfully grown from initially manufacturing electrical brush gear to developing and manufacturing Power and Signal slip rings for Wind Turbine manufacturers across the globe. At present, we estimate that BGB has approximately 60,000 units in off-shore and on-shore Turbines. With a rigorous preproduction testing requirement, our quality standards and track record sets the bar for others within the industry to follow. Recent innovative products include Fibre Optic Rotary Joints (FORJs) along with the patented inductive control technology which uses contactless power for lights typically installed on luxury vessels. With approximately 130 employees across the UK and USA and within the latest addition of our innovation suite, BGB Discovery, the business is proud of its agility, products and service it provides. Due to the strategic growth and diversification, BGB is always keen to hear from talented Engineers and R&D specialists who may be looking for their next challenge. As a committed and now lifelong learner of the 7 habits of highly effective people, I was thrilled when asked to join BGB thanks to their collaborative and people oriented approach. I was initially asked to help the Company create and develop its five-year strategy and in doing so tease out the Company’s values. Now appointed as BGB Innovation’s Managing Director, it is an absolute honour and pleasure to ensure that the strategy developed is realised whilst ensuring that our customers across all sectors of Engineering, Marine and Telemetry continue to receive a premium experience.
A number of interior companies were formed by SIG with a view to complementing its strong distribution background within the construction industry. Later in 2009, SIG created a Manufacturing sector in readiness for divestment, this was successfully achieved in August 2011 when Laidlaw Solutions Limited [now LIG] acquired the business. At the point of transition I assumed the role of Group HR Director with strategic responsibility for HR, SHEQ, Payroll and Fleet for the UK group companies and HR & SHEQ for the International teams in Dubai and India. There have been many notable achievements around the strategic delivery of Organisational Design and Development, Employee Engagement, Cultural Change and Talent Management.
SIG created four sectors within the group, one of which specialised in Commercial Interiors products. This sector was made up from eight businesses with a combined establishment of 2,500 employees across approximately 25 locations throughout the UK. Reporting to the business MD's and the Group’s HR Director, I was responsible for the delivery of appropriate HR based solutions. Whilst I was able to operate with complete autonomy, I was also supported by a wider HR team of Specialists, Advisors and Administrators. This was an extremely commercially biased role and as the market suffered from the recession much of my time was committed to Organisational Design initiatives and leading the necessary restructuring activity.
Prior to being promoted to HR Business Partner within SIG, I was employed as Group HR Manager for Leaderflush Shapland. This business was acquired by SIG in 2005 just six months before I joined the business. Once established within the business, I was given complete autonomy for the HR function and latterly assumed responsibility for SHEQ. My remit included creating and developing a HR Strategy whilst implementing tailored Policies and Procedures through an Integrated Management System. The business had previously been starved of HR support and as such I delivered tailored training events in order help initially with understanding and latterly used the same forums in order to gain buy-in. Leaderflush Shapland had significant Trade Union membership within the T&G section of Unite and the GMB in Nottingham and Barnstaple respectively. I assumed the role of managing these relationships along with the relevant Manufacturing Directors and over time we were able to build strong commercially focused partnerships.
