About

As a 15 year old schoolboy, Nick won the prestigious BBC Search Film Competition with his 8mm sound documentary, Noise. The prize was to direct a short film on a subject of his choice with a BBC Film Crew, the subsequent film was later broadcast on a Search programme. This spurred Nick on to want to work in film and television. Nick won a place on the Film and Television course at West Surrey College of Art and Design (now the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham). During the 3 year course he had the opportunity to write, direct and shoot documentary and narrative films. On graduating he wanted to join the camera department and started his career as an assistant cameraman, working on drama and documentaries. As luck would have it, he was soon offered jobs as a cameraman. His first assignment was to shoot the Red Arrows USA tour, quite a flying start! For the next few years he shot documentaries in over 60 countries. From the deserts of the Sahara and Atacama to the pyramids and Great Wall of China. During this time he also started to shoot narrative subjects, culminating in working pretty much full time in this genre. Productions worked on include many BAFTA and RTS award winning productions including, Bodies, Pompeii – The Last Day, Terry Pratchett’s Johnny and the Bomb, Nuremberg: Goering’s Last Stand and Skins – for which he was personally nominated for BAFTA and RTS awards for Photography and Lighting, and the Guild of Television Professionals Award for Excellence. Other credits include all episodes of the first season of Our Girl, for which he won his second Guild of Television Professionals Award for Excellence. The Syndicate, The Interceptor, The Replacement, Mansfield Park, Mr. Selfridge, The Paradise, The Split and Poldark, for which he was personally nominated for a second RTS Award for Photography and Lighting. Most recently he shot two seasons of Gentlemen Jack for HBO/BBC, Deep State, a political thriller for Fox/Disney, The Irregulars for Netflix, two episodes of the ITV detective series Grace, one of the three Dr. Who 60th Anniversary Specials – Wild Blue Yonder for BBC/Disney, followed by two episodes for the 2025 season of Dr Who, shooting two of the most popular episodes of the BBC/Disney reboot, Lux and The Well. Features include: The Chemical Brothers: Don’t Think directed by Adam Smith. Dartmoor Killing, winner of Best Thriller at The National Film Awards. B&B for Creative England, winner of 9 awards and The Heist Before Christmas, directed by Ed Hall. Agent: Wizzo and Co. www.wizzoandco.co.uk
