I am enthusiastic about improving the community’s resilience to environmental pressures, as well as protecting the environment its-self, especially relating to green flood and coastal erosion risk management.       Working as part of the Environmental Sustainability team to ensure the legislative compliance of the local authority and sustainable management of the coastline and bathing waters of South Tyneside. Part of this role involves the delivery of flood risk mitigation schemes to protect the borough from flooding, being involved from the scoping and funding stages through to project delivery. Furthermore, also ensuring the safe use of marine and terrestrial and areas through contaminated land consultations and duties arising from the bathing water regulations. Other duties part of the role also involve ordinary waterways consent, shoreline management plan delivery, sustainable urban drainage systems consultations and others arising from the local lead flood authority of the council. Also, I am working to deliver the 'Stronger Shores: Marine habitats protecting coastal communities' project, aiming to provide an evidence base to fill the evidence gap in improving our understanding of the role that seagrass, kelp and native oysters play in coastal erosion, flood risk, climate change, biodiversity management and any other wider benefits, and the costs and benefits involved This will provide a mechanism for the incorporation of nature-based solutions in future coastal management strategies through the creation of a transformative natural capital and ecosystem services framework.
