Nick is a highly experienced GM/Director Risk, with significant experience in providing risk advisory services both in-house and working for Big 4 firms across a wide variety of sectors including consumer business (in particular manufacturing, retail and agribusiness, pharmaceutical), property, media & telecommunications, technology, financial services, not for profit, government, education, health and legal sectors. Nick is currently the Director of Risk at University of New South Wales, having previously been Risk Director at UTS, General Manager - Risk for Chandler Macleod Group, Deloitte Sydney's Risk Services market lead for the Consumer Business sector, the Head of Internal Audit & Risk at ITV plc and a member of numerous project and management committee's providing business risk advice to the Board's of the various companies. Nick has led, delivered and managed risk management and internal audit services to a wide range of FTSE100, ASX100 and Nasdaq listed companies. Nick's experience includes delivering insights and transparency in risk to executive boards. Nick has led the delivery of numerous assurance framework, risk management framework and internal audit effectiveness reviews and provided advice to a wide range of companies on improving the quality and impact of risk reporting into Boards and Audit Committees. Nick is currently the Director, Risk at UNSW responsible for resetting and transforming the Risk Management function to meet the changing and varied needs of the University. Nick is responsible for implementing a risk governance framework for the University and embedding risk management into key business processes. Within the Risk Management function, Nick oversees the travel risk assessment process for International trips and the Business Continuity framework and plans.
Nick was the inaugural risk director at the University responsible for the development and implementation of a more sophisticated and ubiquitous management of risk across the University. Nick introduced and implemented a risk governance framework across the university and embedded risk management into key business processes. Nick coordinated and led a program of cultural change across UTS to embed new approaches to strategic risk management across all operational and support units. As part of introducing a risk governance framework, Nick developed an easy to use and fit for purpose RIsk Management Policy and Procedure, introduced new risk assessment tools, developed a risk appetite statement with clear metrics to assess performance, successfully introduced risk management software and worked closely with the Director of Internal Audit to strengthen the Assurance mapping approach. Nick's responsibilities included overseeing and managing the University's Insurance program and providing in depth risk analysis to new ventures and opportunities that the University was considering. Nick served as the University’s key focal point, and subject matter expert, on risk management. Nick was the inaugural chair of UTS Shenzhen Research & Innovation Centre, a member of the board of Access UTS (UTS's commercial arm) and chair of UTS's Research Risk Committee.
Nick was responsible for strengthening and enhancing the risk management framework at Chandler Macleod Group. This included introducing pragmatic and value adding approaches to utilising risk management at the Group Executive Board level and within the business units located in Australia (38 offices) and Internationally (UK and Ireland, Hong Kong, Indonesia and New Zealand). Nick was responsible for fostering and driving a culture of enhanced risk management through the provision of expert advice, training, tools and guidance to enable the business and operations to achieve their strategic objectives within appropriate risk parameters. Nick was responsible for the Quality Assurance and Business Continuity Planning functions across the whole group and chaired the management of significant emergency incidents for the Group. Nick's role also involved undertaking special projects both domestically and overseas as the organisation restructured.
Nick was the Deloitte Sydney Risk Services market lead for the Consumer Business sector and led, delivered and managed Risk Advisory services to FTSE100 and ASX100 companies predominately in the Consumer Business, Media, Telecommunications, Financial Services and Property sectors. Nick was an Associate Director at KPMG Risk Services where he delivered internal audit, risk management and corporate governance reviews for clients across the Consumer Business, Media, Telecommunications and Technology, Gaming and Property sectors. Nick led, delivered and managed Internal Audit and Risk Management services to a wide variety of ASX100, FTSE 100 and Nasdaq listed companies, developing and delivering Internal Audit plans, designing and implementing risk management frameworks and assessing the governance arrangements of companies. Nick delivered a number of specialist risk reviews focused on the entire value chain and supply chain of Consumer Business companies identifying some significant opportunities and a number of significant unmitigated risk exposures impacting the company's bottom line.
