About

I am a Stroke Association Senior Clinical Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the University of Cambridge and an Honorary Consultant in Stroke Medicine at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. My research uses multimodal imaging to evaluate the links between the vulnerable carotid atherosclerotic plaque, the vulnerable brain, and the vulnerable (frail) individual: • Carotid atherosclerosis: Our research uses positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance imaging to assess atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability and its response to novel treatments. • Effects on the brain: We are investigating the links between inflammation within atherosclerosis and effects on the brain using advanced neuroimaging techniques. • Frailty in stroke: Our work evaluates the link between vascular disease and clinical frailty, and how this affects outcomes after stroke. My research has received awards from the British Heart Foundation, Wellcome Trust, British Association of Stroke Physicians, British Atherosclerosis Society, Royal Society of Medicine, and the Royal College of Physicians. In my clinical role, I have an interest in hyperacute stroke treatments (thrombolysis and thrombectomy) and carotid atherosclerosis, and serve as the liaison with the Emergency Department and Vascular Surgery teams. I am also the Clinical Governance Lead for both the Stroke Department at Addenbrooke's and for the East of England Thrombectomy Network. I am a committed medical educator: I have a Master's in Medical Education (MMEd) and have an interest in assessment, simulation, and faculty development. I am the Director of Studies in Pre-Clinical Medicine at Wolfson College (University of Cambridge), Course Director for the Student Selected Component of the undergraduate medical course, and Lead for the INSPIRE Programme that promotes medical research and clinical academic careers amongst medical students.
