About

I'm a Professor in Communication Studies and Computer Science (by courtesy) at Northwestern University where I am Director of the Computational Journalism Lab (CJL). My research is broadly oriented around topics related to Computational Journalism with active research projects on AI, automation, and algorithms in news production and distribution. I also do research in the area of AI, Ethics, & Society with projects related to algorithmic accountability, transparency, and impact. Over the last couple years I've been running a blog on the topic of Generative AI in news production: https://generative-ai-newsroom.com/ and most recently have launched the AI Accountability Review which seeks to translates research to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice for AI policymakers, practitioners, and researchers: https://www.ai-accountability-review.com/ I am broadly interested in doing research which has societal impact and in translating work from my field for broader communities and for policy impact.
