I work as a Senior Bilingual Claims Level 4 both for motor breakdown and accident assistance (which also involves claims for collisions, fire and theft) and for home emergency assistance claims. In my position I perform several office duties involving regular use of telephone communications, fax and email exchanges, letter writing in English and French, the use of mainly written and spoken French and English and in cooperation with other company branches in Western and Eastern Europe, insurance companies, recovery operators, garages, the police, airline companies, Eurotunnel, several ferry companies, taxi companies, hotels and hospitals. Live Interpretation mainly through conference calls is typical of my duty because many customers need us to be the medium between garages or service providers and themselves due to language barrier. I also translate documents such as technical or assessor’s report or certificate of disposal from English to French or vice versa. At peak time we work under enormous pressure because we want to offer the highest quality service possible to our customers and feel it more when we have to achieve targets amidst high volumes of incoming calls or when the service providers cannot cope with our demands. In my role I am also called to shadow and help new recruits to get into the practice of our job and to help them integrate their new team. I have been privileged to participate in the new structure that has been set to combine the international motor department and the home emergency property claims department into one claims department. The company is using my experience to guide and advise home emergency qualified colleagues who are newly-trained in international motor claims: I am the referral point in one of the three teams where I have been recently affected. What I do is in relation with my background as a trilingual because I have the opportunity to operate using English and French as a major means of interaction.
