Oversee hemodialysis treatment for outpatient and inpatients within the 4 hospitals of University Health Network (UHN). Provide intermittent hemodialysis (IHD) and sustained low-efficiency dialysis (SLED) to various chronic and acute kidney injury patients. Able to set up, troubleshoot and dismantle three different hemodialysis machines (Bellco, Artis and Nikkiso). Access patient sites from central venous catheters to cannulation of arteriovenous fistulas and grafts. Educate patients and/or family members how to manage their illness by reviewing necessary hemodialysis related medications and fluid control at home. Administer dialysis required medications, antibiotics and blood transfusions during treatment. Work alongside an interdisciplinary team of doctors, nurse practitioners, vascular access coordinators, social workers, dietitians, pharmacist and physiotherapists. Able to efficiently use and navigate EPIC charting system. Work as charge nurse in a high acuity and fast-paced environment, while demonstrating positive team leadership and resource skills. Apart of Nephrology Nursing Council, a team of members who collaborate and share ideas to aid the growth of nephrology units within UHN.
Collection of nasal specimens, primarily using naso-pharyngeal swabbing technique, for the purpose of testing for COVID-19 diagnostics of positive or asymptomatic clients. Followed infection control protocol specifically related to donning and doffing PPE. Ensured accurate documentation including patient requisitions and specimen labels. Provided symptom check and care for patients, performed duties with discretion and professionalism at all times.
Play a key role in the Faculty of Health's student recruitment program to help coordinate both on-campus and off-campus events for prospective students. Interview, assist with the coordination, scheduling, training, and management of Student Health Ambassador of York (SHAY). Engaging with prospective students and parents in a professional manner and assist with effective marketing of the advantages of attending York University and the Faculty of Health to high-quality University applicants. Event planning, coordination and management for Faculty of Health events, amongst many administrative duties.
