About

“If you think compliance is expensive, try non-compliance." Like many of us, I come from a humble background with a simple mission to build a safer and greener community. Back in the 1990s, I developed a strong affinity towards 'building materials' when I used to observe my parents at construction sites. And hence, after pursuing formal education in Civil & Structural Engineering, I now work for the industry that I have been always enthusiastic about. Nonetheless, the building industry has undergone significant transformation since the 1990s. Obviously, modernization and digitization (plus the Covid-19 disruption) have a huge role to play in it. The need of the industry to develop a consumer-focused approach is now more than ever. It has become essential to demonstrate compliance to codes and standards not only to provide public safety but also to earn long-term stakeholder trust and a competitive edge. So, how do I contribute to driving product & design compliance? Well, I apply my technical skills as well as project management experience to add value to building projects that I am involved in. I bring my effective communication skills to the room when dealing with complex jobs. Notwithstanding that construction is an industry of materials, tools and machines, it is also a people’s industry. I appreciate the value of a human-centric approach which is why I put in the effort to translate difficult technical clauses of standards and codes into simple requirements for my stakeholders to make an informed decision. Having clear project requirements reduces conflicts between various parties. It also cuts the possibility of misinterpretations by the ‘people’ of the industry and hence, leads to successful project completion in a timely manner. That being said, I also implement my expertise in façade/structural engineering to assist building practitioners in the proper assessment of bushfire requirements as per Australian Standard (AS)-3959 and wind loading requirements on buildings as per AS-4055 & AS/NZS-1170.2. Reach out if you want to talk to me about any of the following: ◾Australian Standards and compliance-related matters; ◾Resilient building and product designs; ◾Emerging innovations (drone technology, modular designs, etc.); ◾Software such as AutoCAD, SJ Mepla, SAP2000, Microstrain; ◾Thermal simulations of fenestration products. When I am not working, I will be either reading a book, cooking or kayaking! Top skills: Project Engineering | Technical Writing | Energy Simulations | Standards Development | Public Speaking
