I shadowed Dr. Despotidis, Dr. Lee, and two residents, gaining valuable insight into their specialized practices. During this experience, I observed a range of procedures and treatments, including myopia control, vision therapy, and comprehensive eye exams. Each professional brought unique expertise to their field, allowing me to explore diverse approaches to patient care and deepen my understanding of optometry.
Shadowed Dr. Joshua Greene in Retinal Care. - Observed the diagnosis and treatment of various retinal conditions, including macular holes, retinal tears, macular degeneration, and complications related to diabetic eye care. -Gained experience reviewing fundus photography and understanding its role in retinal health management.
Worked and Shadowed Dr. Krystal Nguyen - Operated medical equipment, including an autorefractor to obtain objective measurements of refractive error and a non-contact tonometer to assess intraocular pressure. Also conducted visual field testing. -Observed myopia control, optical coherence tomography, primary care of patients. - Interacted with patients to ensure they received appropriate care and support throughout their visits. - Assisted the optometrist with pre-examination tests, vision assessments, and precise measurements. - Worked as a technician/intern during academic breaks, including winter and summer.
