An Orthopaedic and Spinal surgeon at the National University Hospital since 2007, I have been involved in numerous academic and clinical commitments. Subsequently, I was appointed as a Senior Consultant on 1st July 2008. In the 12 years after relocating, I have made substantial improvements in clinical and operative practice, further enhancing the clinical management of patients with spinal pathologies. I have also had the special opportunity to lead a research team that has contributed to an innovative management of blood loss in metastatic spine disorders. I believe I currently have an ever-expanding research experience in the field of metastatic spinal disorders. Introducing the OSCE examinations and advancing teachings and assessment techniques are only some of the contributions I am proud to have made to the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (YLLSOM) of the National University of Singapore. In July 2013, I was appointed the Undergraduate Director for Orthopaedics as I was heavily involved in the development of the Orthopaedic teaching. I have also been involved in creating a more comprehensive question banking systems aligned with the development of the curriculum rationalization initiative of the University. It is my honour to have been applauded at the dean townhouse meetings, in both January and December 2014, by the dean of YLLSOM for the early transformation of the teaching quality under my leadership. I was also awarded the Faculty Teaching Excellence Award for the academic years of 2010/11 and 2014/15. I have also contributed to post-graduate training and fellowship training at the University Spine Centre, National University of Singapore. I am privileged to have a further 2 years (2017-2019) extension as the Undergraduate Director to make further innovative changes in the teaching structure, curriculum development and evolution of assessment techniques.

Being involved in research as well as teaching undergraduates, postgraduates and trainee doctors, which lead to my appointment as a senior lecturer for the University of Birmingham.
As a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, my special interest in Spinal Surgery, involved me developing spinal surgery and general orthopaedics for the ‘Black Country’ with various senior colleagues. My work primarily involved operating on metastatic spinal disorders, spinal trauma and degenerative spinal disorders in the cervical, thoracic & lumbosacral spinal regions. I covered general Orthopaedic trauma every 1 in 8 days and was involved in developing a ‘back triage service’, ‘spinal cord compression service’ and an undergraduate teaching programme.
This Fellowship allowed me to delve into advanced cervical spine surgery and spinal trauma. There were various opportunities to scrub into spinal procedures with the attendings. Having completed the USMLE examinations, and licensed in the USA, I was able to carry out hands-on procedures.
