I work at the Atatürk Library, which is considered the central library of approximately 60 branch libraries affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Library and Museums Directorate, and is the first library of the Republic era. The library houses over 500,000 works, and my primary responsibilities include lending and reader-reference services. Additionally, I am actively involved in cataloging and donation-acquisition units. Note: I have also been serving as the editor for social media content at the same institution for some time. In the User Services Unit located in the upper reading room of the Atatürk Library, we facilitate researchers' access to books and archive sources, mediating the research and information acquisition process. We handle library membership and lending-return transactions and deliver requested books from the storage to the user according to the elevator schedule. At the Atatürk Library, we categorize donated books into those that will join the collections of the Atatürk Library and affiliated branch libraries and those that will be sent to the acquisition unit for evaluation. We prepare the books allocated to enrich our libraries for cataloging by sorting and classifying them. For books acquired through purchase or donation, following the AAKK2 cataloging rules, we create catalog records. To facilitate users' access to the desired subjects, we assign subject headings based on the Sears List of Subject Readings. For cataloging, we perform classification according to the DOS (Dewey Decimal Classification) 20 system. After completing the cataloging process, we add labels, color bands, transparent tape, and alarms to the finished books and deliver them to the relevant branch for presentation to users. In my current position, I perform text editing (proofreading), developmental editing, final proofreading (correction), project writing, and stylistic editing. In the proofreading process, I not only eliminate spelling and punctuation errors, writing mistakes, and narrative inconsistencies but also provide necessary suggestions at the word and sentence level. I collaborate with the author in a coordinated manner to make the required edits and corrections. Additionally, I conduct the final proofreading to ensure the text is error-free. I also undertake tasks such as writing back cover blurbs, one-page summaries, and suggesting book titles for some books. I work meticulously and have experience with various types of files. Six books that I have edited have been printed and placed on shelves. During my university years, with the knowledge gained during my internship at Istanbul Aydın University, I was involved in general processes related to periodical tracking and periodicals at Istanbul University's Istinye Library. This included tasks such as creating journal subscriptions, cataloging periodicals, managing relationships with subscribed companies, and handling labeling, barcode, and RFID processes for periodicals. I also participated in interlibrary loan (ILL) services and the overall workflow of library profession. At Cogito Preschool; I worked as a shadow teacher/play companion for a warm-hearted 3-year-old child who, compared to peers, lagged behind in language, learning, and social relationships development, showed a tendency towards autism, and exhibited developmental delays. Although the child required special education, they were inclined towards learning and progress.
I attended to a 3-year-old Nigerian child who was very active and did not speak Turkish. In the preschool where I interned, the child was having difficulty adapting to the cultural, linguistic, and habitual aspects compared to other children, which hindered both mental and physical development. With the knowledge, guidance, and reference of the preschool where I interned, I provided personalized education to the child at his home. To better observe and report on the child's development and reactions, I kept daily notes and filled out a development inventory categorized based on the age groups I had access to.
