I helped review the contract terms, identified potential liability and breach points, and prepared a clear summary of options for the client, including risk mitigation and next steps. I also participated in client meetings, contributing to discussions on strategy and practical solutions. This experience strengthened my ability to analyse contracts, assess legal risk, and communicate complex concepts clearly to clients- skills directly transferable to a transactional and commercial practice. Working on live commercial matters under supervision mirrored the pressures of real-world client-facing legal work, helping me develop attention to detail, structured thinking, and pragmatic problem-solving, all essential for a trainee solicitor advising sophisticated clients.
During my internship at Protopapas LLP, I reviewed high-value commercial contracts for prominent corporate clients, including Rolls-Royce Plc, covering Share Purchase Agreements (SPAs), long-term supply agreements, and associated legal documentation. I drafted and analysed indemnity documentation relating to the loss of share certificates, ensuring confirmation of title and shareholder entitlement, and prepared formal requests for the registration of share transfers on behalf of the client’s board of directors. I conducted legal analysis of GDPR compliance clauses and termination provisions within contracts, identifying areas of legal risk and ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements. I actively participated in internal legal team meetings on contract negotiation strategy and client communications, gaining insight into commercial legal practice and the expectations of senior stakeholders. Additionally, I shadowed barrister Martyn Griffiths at the Royal Courts of Justice during a civil hearing, observing litigation strategy, procedural conduct, and oral advocacy techniques. As President of the Queen Mary Legal Brigades Society, I founded and led a student society focused on international pro bono legal work, recruiting and managing a team of student volunteers. I organised society events and fundraising initiatives, raising over £500 per event to support international legal placements, with each student independently raising approximately £1,000. I coordinated international volunteer placements with NGOs in Greece and Honduras, collaborating with overseas legal clinics and academic partners to ensure high-impact and well-structured experiences. I liaised with partner universities abroad, including the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, to facilitate joint projects and maintain strong professional relationships. Additionally, I chaired committee meetings to lead strategic planning for outreach, recruitment, and event delivery, developing leadership, organisational, and project management skills.
