Hello, I am Jia Ying! I am Nursing graduate from Nanyang Polytechnic with a strong interest in allied health, particularly physiotherapy. I'm passionate about patient centred care and helping people regain mobility, strength, and independence after injury or illness. My nursing background has given me a solid foundation in clinical care, patient communication, and working within multidisciplinary healthcare teams. These are skills I'm excited to build on as I pursue a career in physiotherapy. I am keen to connect with physiotherapists and others interested in the field to learn more and exchange insights!
As part of my Nursing Diploma, I completed my Pre-Registration Clinical Practicum (PRCP) at Outram Community Hospital in a subacute and palliative care ward. Beyond the clinical experience, this placement helped me build skills that are highly transferable. I managed a caseload of 4 to 6 patients each shift holistically, making real-time decisions that required prioritisation, risk assessment, and accountability. Working in a high-stakes environment taught me to stay composed under pressure, think critically, and act with precision. I worked closely with a multidisciplinary team including doctors, therapists, social workers, and dieticians. Coordinating across different professionals with different priorities strengthened my communication and teamwork skills. I also handled admitting, transferring, and discharging of patients, which involved meticulous documentation, planning, and handover coordination. This sharpened my attention to detail and my ability to manage multiple responsibilities at once. This internship proved to me that when one is trained to perform under pressure and care for people at their most vulnerable, delivering in any environment becomes easier.
