  • Software Lead at Berger Medizintechnik GmbH
    Apr 2018 - Mar 2021 · 3 yrs

As the main developer (working remotely out of London), I helped to design an IoT device to support the maintenance and field operation of Automated External Defibrillators. It involved IoT style embedded development and full web stack development for a customer portal to monitor and manage the devices. This also involved working on various hospital backend infrastructure services.

  • Head of Software at Precision Robotics Ltd.
    Dec 2019 - Aug 2020 · 9 mos

Precision Robotics UK is a spinout from Imperial College London which aims to develop a specific kind of surgical robotics system. I joined during a challenging period, but we were able to temporarily grow the team as required and adapt to changes in our working environment. We introduced new tools and workflows, became “Agile” to a sensible extent and solved many technical challenges related to the product. We also developed the infrastructure for regulatory testing and qualification and our team prepared the software related documentation for the regulatory technical files. We reached the end of our milestone and delivered a stable, functional system. Thereafter further development was relocated to outside of the UK.

  • Software and Systems Consultant at MPV Technology Limited

Relocated to London and consulted on a few software projects involving robotics, web services and cloud technology, deep learning and AI. Many of the projects involved IoT enablement technologies in the automotive and medical sectors. I also consulted for a team working in security and defence. As the principal software developer, I designed tooling and a machine learning (Tensorflow) classification system. Some other early projects involved a vision system design and development for a laparoscope, and a prototype robotics system for 3D printing in the food industry. This involved developing robotics and motor control software, and a mobile app for remotely controlling the system. I later also worked on the tooling, architecture and software system for an interactive smart robotics system. I also contracted to leading a small team to automate the testing of a surgical robotics end-of-line production system.

  • Senior Embedded Engineer at CMR Surgical
    May 2014 - Jul 2016 · 2 yrs 3 mos

CMR Surgical started as a small medical product development company with the ambition to develop a lower cost, technically superior surgical robotics system to help drive forwards the adoption of surgical robotics in healthcare. I joined the engineering team in the very early stages and had the opportunity to work on almost all parts of the electronics and software design of the system. This included the robotics design, kinematics algorithms, motor control, video systems, user interfaces and the distributed real-time control and communications infrastructure. Our team was involved in all aspects of the company startup which involved setting up our IT infrastructure, quality systems and development processes to comply with relevant medical device regulations. We were also actively involved in PR activities and recruitment to help grow our team. A most enjoyable project during my time at CMR involved leading the successful design of a low-latency stereoscopic video system which broke out of the standard technology stack used in the medical industry.
