I graduated from the University of Cambridge in June 2024 with an MB BChir (MD equivalent), receiving a Distinction (top 15%) and Examination Prize from Trinity College. During medical school, I was involved in >200 surgical cases; 150 of which were in cardiothoracic surgery and assisted as 1st/2nd assist in 80. I am interested in a clinical academic career in cardiac surgery and deliberate paused my clinical training to undertake a direct-entry PhD at the University of Toronto beginning August 2024. I completed my BSc with First Class Honours from the University of St Andrews, with a dissertation funded by a national award from the Royal College of Physicians and Wolfson Foundation. In medical school, I received three research awards (Laidlaw, Wolfson, RMS) and four academic prizes (Medal in Medicine - top 6 in year, Principal's Scholarship - top 50 across university, Distinction, Trinity Examination Prize). I have completed UK, Canadian, and US medical licensing exams UKMLA, MCCQE1, NACOSCE, USMLE Step 1 and 2. My PhD utilises multiomic data with aims to risk stratify and identify patients with thoracic aortic aneurysms at risk of dissection. My research is supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) via a Canadian Graduate Scholarship - Doctoral (CGRS-D) award. I am passionate about peer mentorship and medical education. I completed the Cambridge Clinical School Teaching Certificate and have delivered lectures to Cambridge medical students and internationally. From 2023-25, I held a national leadership role as Mentorship Lead in the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery (SCTS) INSINC student committee. I established an inaugural outreach program in Cambridge for students from widening participation backgrounds intending to apply to medicine, with a comprehensive week of work experience at Royal Papworth Hospital and tailored workshops on personal statement writing, medical ethics, and interview preparation. I am undertaking further training through the U of T Accessible and Inclusive Teaching Certificate Program. My community service includes a current voluntary role as a Research Application Support Initiative (RASI) Mentor at the University of Toronto, and previous roles as Co-President of the Cambridge University Surgical Society (2023-24), Welfare Officer in the Clinical Student Society (2022-24), Year 5 Class Representative (2022-23), and teaching ballet and pointe, for which I received an Outstanding Contribution award from the St Andrews Dance Society (2021).
