About

Michael Wong is an accomplished finance professional with a record of developing and managing new business groups within large and small companies. Since 2008, he has worked for PennyMac, a specialty finance company that invests primarily in U.S. residential mortgage loans and mortgage-related assets. He established the Contract Finance Group at PennyMac, which manages all of the company’s whole loan and servicing rights purchase and sale transactions and securitization activity. Highlights of his work in this group include: managing the first FDIC joint participation transaction to acquire loans from a failed mortgage company, managing PennyMac’s relationships with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and establishing PennyMac’s first financing lines. Michael has also held senior positions in PennyMac’s Investor Relations and Treasury Groups. In Investor Relations, he managed external communications with investors, analysts, ratings agencies, media, etc. In this capacity, he worked closely with senior management, the board of directors and the legal department to ensure delivery of consistent and appropriate messaging. Prior to that, Michael was a manager in PennyMac’s Treasury Group, where he managed all of the company’s $6 billion in warehouse financing lines that provided liquidity to fund the company’s businesses. From 2003 to 2008, Michael was a Vice President at Countrywide Securities Corporation, managing its whole loan bulk purchasing activities and personally managing over $25 billion in transactions. Prior to joining Countrywide, Michael worked in securitization and capital markets positions at Standard & Poor’s, JP Morgan Chase, NextCard and Calyon. Michael has an MBA from the Stern School of Business and a BS from the Wharton School of Business.
