I am Research Associate, Centre of Taiwan Studies, SOAS University of London; Research Associate, Institute of Sociology, Academia Sinica, Taiwan; and the founding Editor-in-Chief, International Journal of Taiwan Studies (2018–present). I worked as a researcher at the University of Nottingham (1999–2005) and became Head of Chinese Studies at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (2005–2007). Before I joined SOAS in 2013 and Academia Sinica in 2018, I researched and taught East Asian film industries at the University of Leeds (2007–2013). I have published widely in both English and Chinese on Chinese-language cinema and media and democratisation in Taiwan. My experiences of living and working in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and UK have given me a unique intercultural perspective on the media, cinema, society and cultural representations of identities. My most recent books are Taiwanese-Language Cinema: Rediscovered and Reconsidered (eds Chris Berry, Wafa Ghermani, Corrado Neri & Ming-Yeh Rawnsley, EUP, 2024) and Routledge Handbook of Chinese Media, 2nd Edition (eds Ming-Yeh Rawnsley, Yiben Ma & Gary Rawnsley, Routledge, forthcoming). I also lead a new short book series (co-edited with Gary Rawnsley) titled ‘Anthem Impact in Asian Media, Cinema and Communications’.
The Anthem Impact in Asian Media, Cinema and Communications series delves into the rapid and extensive transformations witnessed in Asia’s communications landscape. With a focus on the multi-directional flows of information, culture and communications within the contexts of globalisation and regionalisation, this series publishes original, high-quality works, ranging between 20,000 and 30,000 words. The series stands out for its commitment to addressing timely issues and current trends, facilitated by its shorter length. It appeals to scholars, researchers and enthusiasts interested in gaining insights into the dynamic and evolving nature of Asian media, cinema and communications. Series Editor Ming-Yeh Rawnsley, University of London, UK Gary Rawnsley, University of Lincoln, UK Proposals We welcome submissions of proposals for challenging and original works from emerging and established scholars and practitioners that meet the criteria of our series. We make prompt editorial decisions. Our titles are published in digital and print editions and are subject to peer review by recognized authorities in the field. Should you wish to send in a proposal for original research, literature review / analytical surveys, advanced tutorials or other reference works, please contact us at: [email protected].
The International Journal of Taiwan Studies, cosponsored by Academia Sinica and the European Association of Taiwan Studies, is a principal outlet for the dissemination of cutting-edge research on Taiwan, including social sciences, arts and humanities, and topics which are interdisciplinary in nature. The journal was launched in 2018 and is published in March and September each year. For more details about the IJTS, please see: https://brill.com/view/journals/ijts/ijts-overview.xml
