Registered town planner (SACPLAN: A/3317/2023) with 8 years of experience in both the public and private sectors. Currently serving as the Assistant Director: Metro Planning for the City of Johannesburg Municipality, under the Development Planning Department. My role focuses on policy formation and amendments to ensure the city’s spatial transformation toward a more just, inclusive, and efficient city. I head the Metro Planning team within the City Transformation Directorate, which is the custodian for the Municipal Spatial Development Framework (SDF), Nodal Review policy and Inclusionary Housing policy. I holds a Master of Urban Studies degree focused on Sustainable Energy & Efficient Cities (SEEC) and an Honors degree and Bachelors in Urban and Regional Planning all from the University of the Witwatersrand. I believe in the power of creative urban strategies in improving people’s experiences in the city in the way we plan and manage public assets for the greater good. I have a particular interest in strategic planning, effective policy formation, and tools and practices for increasing the land value and energy efficiency of buildings in the provision of affordable housing as well as infrastructure.
I provide strategic property information and asset intelligence initiatives that support evidence-based decision-making across the City of Johannesburg's municipal property portfolio. My role focuses on improving property governance, asset management, and intergovernmental coordination through data analytics, spatial planning, and policy development. Key responsibilities include: - property information analysis for the municipal property portfolio. - Developing decision-support tools to improve strategic asset management. - Managing intergovernmental property transfer processes between the City of Johannesburg, Gauteng Provincial Government, and national departments. - Supporting infrastructure asset management, municipal property classification, and portfolio optimisation.
• Perform general management duties in the Metropolitan City-wide sub-directorate within the City Transformation and Spatial Planning Directorate. • Custodian of the City’s Spatial Development Framework (SDF); Inclusionary Housing Policy & Nodal Review Policy • Coordinate and ensure the provision of strategic planning and development services, spatial, legal, and financial compliance in all the sub-directorate's functions and duties, which involves the following: 1. Internal review of the COJ Municipal Spatial Development Framework (SDF) 2040 (2024) - approved by the Council on the 27th of November 2024. 2. Implementation oversight, monitoring, and evaluation of the Inclusionary Housing (IH) policy (2019) as well as the development of the COJ Inclusionary Housing Trends Report 2024/25. • Facilitate private-sector investment through re/development and coordinating public sector efforts from the various internal departments towards a targeted spatial vision for the city. • Co-coordinating spatial development in one the City’s priority areas : Empire Perth Transit Oriented Corridor (TOD) Corridor. • Formulate desired development vision and policies at a regional and local level through the development of Precinct Plans for Region B of the City. • Continuous interaction with private developers, communities, ward councilors and various committees. • Provide policy strategic direction and guidance for development applications and enquiries with Land Use Management. • Co-ordinate and provide oversight on projects implementation with the Development Planning Implementation Agent, Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA). • Panel member in Municipal Tribunals for Development Application objection resolutions.
My responsibility as an Urban Design tutor is to assist undergraduate Urban & Regional Planning students with graphic communication by providing clarity on design concepts. It also includes providing critical input on students' site analysis and helping the lecturer facilitate learning during studio sessions. This duty has not only been helpful in improving my own knowledge but it has also been good in gaining extra cash. In addition to that it enables me to share my experiences and stay intact with my creative side.
