- A Canadian Infantry Officer with over 30 years of military service in both the regular and reserve force, including five international deployments and one major domestic response operation. - Has consistently demonstrated initiative and leadership at a number of levels including small teams, Platoon (over 30 personnel) and Company (over 100 personnel), as well as numerous staff appointments within both operational and strategic headquarters. - Has graduated from the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry Battle School, the Canadian Army Combat Training Center (both the Infantry School and the Tactics School), the Canadian Army Command and Staff College, the Pearson Peacekeeping Center, the Canadian Peace Support Training Center, and the NATO School (Oberammergau). - Has extensive experience in defence diplomacy, resource management and allocation, leadership development, operational planning and execution, as well as strategic policy development and implementation. - Currently employed as Military-Faculty (MILFAC) at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMCC) in the Department of Political Science and Economics, specializing in Canadian defence policy, Civ-mil relations, and Strategic Studies.
Employed as Military-Faculty (MILFAC) within the Department of Political Science and Economics, my research primarily focuses on international conflict, civ-mil relations, and Canadian foreign and defence policy.
Through the Canadian Armed Forces Post Graduate Training Scholarship, I attended the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA) to research International Conflict. During three years of full time scholarship, I completed all required course work and comprehensive exams, as well as my Doctoral Research Seminar and Prospectus Defence, primarily in the field of Canadian defence policy and the use of armed force.
Employed in the Exercises and Training branch (J7) as one of the staff officers responsible for planning the Canadian Forces’ JOINTEX 2015 and NATO’s TRIDENT JUNCTURE 2015. As a key member of the exercise core planning team, I assisted in the planning, control, and force generation of a complex and multi-phased warfare scenario, reinforcing Canada's "train as we fight" concept in the main certification venue for NATO's Response Force (NRF) 2016. After returning from TRIDENT JUNCTURE 2015 in November 2015, I was assigned to the CJOC Joint Training Authority where I helped to develop the Canadian Forces' Joint Training Doctrine and played a supporting role in the creation of the Joint Exercise Planning System and Joint Training Doctrine manuals.
Employed in the Directorate of Strategic Readiness (J5) as the Staff Officer for International Training and Exercises, I assisted with the prioritization and funding of national joint and combined training events with an annual value of between $35-50 million, represented Canada in the development of the NATO Crisis Response Management System, and played a key role in planning the initial Canadian military response to the Ukraine/Crimea Crisis of March 2014.
Employed as the Caribbean Desk Officer within ADM(Pol)'s Directorate of Military Training and Cooperation (DMTC) and seconded to the Jamaican Defence Force (JDF) as the Standards Officer for the multinational Caribbean Junior Command and Staff College (CJCSC) in Moneague, Jamaica, I was responsible for command of the Canadian contingent, Canadian support to the College, and the overall content of the course material.
Employed as the Deputy Team Site Leader of the Julud Team Site in the Nuba Mountains, I led small teams of international military observers and monitored the various agreements on cease-fires, withdrawals and demilitarization in support of the 2005 Sudanese Comprehensive Peace Agreement. I also conducted ground and aerial patrolling of both sides of the conflict along the confrontation lines. In addition, I established relations with the local community and NGO's, helped to resolve local difficulties (social, economic, etc.) by conducting liaison with all sides and investigated allegations of armed aggression or cease-fire violations.
Employed within the Army Staff HQ, I was responsible for maintaining all correspondence between the Minister of National Defence’s (MNDs) office and the Chief of the Land Staff (CLS), Access to Information Requests (ATIPs), as well as all Parliamentary reports and returns concerning the Army. During this time, I was also employed in the Reserves in the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa as Officer Commanding Alpha Company (OC A) where I was responsible for the training, readiness and employment of up to 100 reservists.
