Delivered a 30% energy saving over 6 years by development of a site wide Building Management System, the use of energy efficient appliance / lighting and negotiating bulk energy contracts at periods of low pricing.
Provide strategic leadership in respect of the effective management and control of the college estate. Management of a £750K maintenance budget and £500k utility budget ensuring no overspend by effective monitoring throughout the year. Effective management of and estates team of 50 staff including cleaners, maintenance operatives, grounds maintenance operatives, caretakers/security and apprentices. Ensure that the college and its sites are fully utilised, maintained and enhanced to provide an optimum learning and working environment for all users Deliver effective Health and Safety management within the college and its off site centres and ensure compliance with current legislation Advise and manage all planned campus redevelopments Responsible for all accommodation changes to college property including liaison with senior staff to develop appropriate schemes. Make appropriate and timely applications with the planning and building regulation authorities and procure the schemes to target completion dates. Appoint and liaise with property consultants and legal professionals. Responsible for all grounds maintenance including the back charging of external users including the management and administration of the sports pitches Manage all service contracts within the estates area and monitor contractor performance. Manage the estates team of maintenance operatives, caretakers and cleaners including the appointment, induction, development and appraisal of estates staff. Responsible for college security arrangements, the development of policies and procedures and providing robust systems and assessment of risk to maintain continuous business arrangements
Provide design advice on engineering services installations to Society premises. Manage the cost effective purchase of utilities and to promote energy management awareness within the organisation. Delivery of a £2M PPM programed each year On time and on cost delivery of a £2.5M Capital replacement programme each year Effective management of a team of 17 staff spread across the UK Ensure Health and Safety compliance in relation to building services. Manage the Society’s warehouse and postal facilities. Manage Head Office facilities. Design and supervise the installation of engineering services to Society premises comprising principally Veterinary Centres and shops to meet statutory regulations. Liaising with Architects, Engineering Consultants and Building Surveyors as necessary and approving stage payments to contractors as appropriate. Prepare specifications for the maintenance of engineering services installations, advise on the selection of suitable maintenance contractors and monitor the performance of selected contractors and liaison with the Society’s Regional Property Services staff. Ensure that building services comply with prevailing Health and Safety Regulations and that installation works are carried out in accordance with the Construction, Design and Management Regulations. Liaise with and provide advice to the Society’s regional property staff on building services issues and advice on the appointment of appropriate consulting engineers. Prepare annual budgets and monitor performance against targets. Maintain computerised records of building services and act as Departmental Data Protection Officer. Responsible for Head office facilities and manage the work of the facilities controller and building supervisor. Manage the Society’s warehousing staff and facilities including the despatch and postage of goods and documents to meet organisational requirements.
Mechanical Design Engineer responsible for projects from outline business case to handover. Main responsibilities are to design supervise and commission systems for various building stock from small office heating systems to theatre air conditioning including dealing with financial claims and accounts to comply with NHS standing orders . As part of the design team it is required that all members can understand the requirements of other trades and to assist with problems and co-ordination of all disciplines. Individual responsibilities are the management of an in house Cad system and site EMS together with general computer systems for word processing. Due to previous experience, responsible for coordination of works under taken by external consultants.
Design Engineer responsible for the Design and Production of tender drawings and specifications and supervision of the complete services installations. Mechanical Services included variable refrigerant volume air conditioning systems, low pressure hot water heating systems vented and unvented, hot and cold water services internal and external, gas installations. Projects involved Client and Design Team liaison from conception to completion, weekly/monthly attendance at progress meetings, evaluation of interim payments etc.
