Antwerp, Flemish Region, Belgium
For more than 20 years, I’ve been turning lines on drawings into buildings that actually work — comfortably, efficiently, and sometimes under very tight deadlines. My background combines detailed HVAC design with strong calculation skills, advanced CAD/BIM expertise, and hands-on experience managing full Design & Build projects across Retail, Office, Industrial, and Automotive sectors. Over the years, I’ve coordinated projects from concept to execution, managed budgets up to €1.5M, negotiated with suppliers, handled procurement and contracts, and made sure equipment arrived where it needed to be… preferably before site teams started calling every 10 minutes. For the last almost 4 years, I’ve been focused on Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences HVAC design in Belgium, where precision, compliance, and contamination control leave very little room for “it should be fine.” It’s a challenging environment that pushed me to grow technically and professionally — and I genuinely enjoy it. I like solving problems, mentoring younger engineers, and finding practical solutions without unnecessary complexity. I believe good engineering should be smart, efficient, buildable, and understandable by the people who actually have to install and operate it. Still learning, still improving, still occasionally arguing with duct routing.
Senior HVAC Design Engineer with approximately 4 years of focused experience in Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences environments, where I have been learning and contributing to GMP-compliant HVAC design for BSL-3 laboratories, low particle cleanrooms, radiopharmaceutical facilities and critical production areas, including projects for Janssen at Leiden Scientific Park such as a major filling line, Curium in Petten and Saclay, and Organon Belgium covering Nasonex and LOC capacity expansion, while also occasionally stepping into Clean Utilities and Piping scopes, coordinating BIM multidisciplinary teams, supporting and mentoring younger engineers, and acting for about one year as Employee Ownership representative in the Antwerp office, all while continuously developing my technical judgment, keeping a practical mindset, and trying not to overcomplicate airflow discussions even when they get surprisingly philosophical.
• Prepared technical and financial proposals, pre-design studies, quotations, and tenders for Design & Build HVAC projects • Managed contracts, execution budgets, procurement activities, supplier negotiations, equipment acquisition, and delivery coordination • Developed BIM-based HVAC designs for Retail, Office, Pharmaceutical, Automotive, and Residential buildings • Designed Heating, Cooling, Ventilation, Smoke Control, and Differential Pressure systems in compliance with technical and regulatory requirements • Performed HVAC calculations, energy simulations, equipment sizing, and technical system selection using dedicated engineering software • Produced technical specifications and coordinated multidisciplinary activities with Architectural, Structural, and MEP teams • Ensured compliance with legislation, energy performance standards, cost-efficiency objectives, and project execution requirements Key achievements: • Played a key role in supporting the company’s growth from approximately €3M to nearly €48M turnover while acting for many years as the company’s core and sole HVAC Design Engineer • Participated in approximately 55 Design & Build Kaufland hypermarket projects across Romania and the Republic of Moldova • Contributed to the design and execution of 2 large-scale Retail Logistic Deposits • Introduced the first Jet Fan smoke control system for an underground parking facility in the Republic of Moldova for the Kaufland hypermarket in Chișinău, requiring a special Ministry-approved technical derogation due to the absence of local legislation • Participated in tender quotations for prestigious execution projects in Paris, including Hôtel Peninsula Paris and Société Générale developments (Bouygues Bâtiment and CEGELEC) • Expanded expertise into Passive House HVAC design principles and solutions • Recognised for combining technical independence, practical engineering judgment, and commercial awareness in fast-paced Design & Build environments
• Started my engineering career in an academic-oriented environment, working within the company of one of my university professors in Automation Installations — which meant learning engineering with both technical precision and occasional “professor-level” attention to detail • Contributed to the design of Sanitary and Fire-Fighting installations for Civil, Residential, Office, and Retail buildings • Participated in the design of municipal water supply infrastructure, including a major project for the Central Area of Iași, Romania, involving detailed water distribution layouts and valve/access manholes for medium and high-pressure networks • Developed technical designs for cold and hot water distribution systems, indoor and outdoor sewage systems, hydrant networks, sprinkler installations, and fire-fighting pumping stations • Worked extensively in CAD environments, building a strong foundation in technical drafting, detailing, and coordinated engineering design • Played a major role in the design of the Eurocenter Exhibition Centre, delivering the complete sanitary and fire-fighting installation package, including domestic water systems, sewage systems, hydrants, sprinklers, and the fire-fighting pumping station • Learned the importance of technical discipline, coordination, and practical engineering solutions early in my career — along with the reality that professors somehow always spot the one missing annotation on a drawing sheet
Technical design in the field of natural gas distribution and installations for small to medium projects including all the necessary calculations, drawings, and memoirs for project approval, Testing & Commissioning.
