Provided social, emotional, and learning support to children between the ages of 9 and 15. Worked in collaboration with teachers, parents, and administrators to directly support each child’s well-being and academic potential development. Conducted Mental Health counseling and assessments of unaccompanied refugee minors shortly upon their entry into the United States of America. Provided crisis intervention techniques for minors who have underwent various forms of trauma and violence from tender age to adolescents. Worked in conjunction with the Federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, to assist in mental health screenings of minors who are traumatized victims of various forms of trafficking. Engaged in fast track individual, family, and group counseling sessions with minors upon their arrival to the United States until they are reunited with a family member/sponsor upon their departure from the agency placement. Worked with treatment team consisting of program manager and caseworkers to fully assist all unaccompanied minors upon their acclimatization to the United States of America. Conducted all minor related communication in Spanish and Spanish dialects. Assisted minors in developing and utilizing their clinical coping skills to manage their recovery from their traumatic experiences in the past. Population of minors included: teen mothers with babies, pregnant teens, tender age minors (age ten and below).
Facilitate a Pet Loss Support Group at a Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Hospital. Clients range from having either utilized the services available at the Animal Specialty Clinic and/or have heard about the Support group from other venues in the local surrounding area. Group Sessions focus on techniques to combat deep feelings of grief, loss, guilt etc and coping mechanisms to deal with the aftermath of losing an animal companion. Clients are treated both on the individual and group levels.
Provided counseling to over 750 individuals and families regarding pet illness and loss in a facility with 85 veterinarians, including interns and residents. Co-facilitated bi-weekly pet loss support group. Presented group seminars to veterinary interns and residents along with individual coaching to improve their communication skills. Co-Facilitated compassion fatigue workshops. Analyzed the effectiveness of our pet outreach program by examining the nature of the human-animal bond between the pets and participants at the facilities visited each month.
Coordinated therapy visits to enrich the lives of people in nursing homes, hospices, rehabilitation facilities, schools, and programs for blind adults by visiting with certified dog and cats, as part of a pet therapy program. Utilized, administered, and implemented many social work therapeutic developmental techniques with each group of clientele to better serve their needs and enrich their lives. Such techniques included play therapy and narrative therapy.
School social worker at Benjamin Franklin High School’s Student Success Center. Planned for providing free resources for underserved students in Philadelphia. Facilitated a female empowerment mentor group for high school aged females. Implemented and conducted educational, community resource based workshops for students. Mobilized the awareness of campaign programmes college and scholarship conferences for students. Served as a coach, group counselor, and personal mentor to students. Collaborated with local community based agencies to speak on subjects such as Local Housing Rejuvenation Projects (ex. Habitat for Humanity). Arranged for motivational speakers to speak on behalf of the professions of Medicine, Law, and Social Work to students who were interested in working in those fields after completion of high school.
