~Formulated and analyzed the transdermal drug delivery system for ropinirole and risperidone ~Wrote and compiled technical reports for clinical trials ~Wrote research reports and attended regional conferences to present research findings PROJECT DESCRIPTIONS: 1. First-year project: Transdermal Ropinirole for Restless Leg Syndrome and Parkinson’s Disease I developed a transdermal drug delivery system for ropinirole, which currently faces oral drug delivery challenges. I formulated ropinirole base with different adhesives, solvents, and transdermal enhancers and tested the formulations through dissolution sampling and HPLC analysis. I presented my findings at ISEF and PJAS science fair competitions (second and first place, respectively). 2. Second-Year Project: Enhancing the Transdermal Drug Delivery of Risperidone I used risperidone as the model drug with a fixed skin permeation methodology to determine the most effective and safe chemical penetration enhancers for drugs with similar properties. I formulated risperidone base with different chemical penetration enhancers and tested drug delivery through skin permeation and RP-HPLC analysis. The matrix of this study could be applied to the development of any transdermal drug delivery system. I presented findings at local conferences and science fair competitions, and received placements for the presentation of this project as follows: -1st place with a perfect score at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Regional Competition -1st place at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science State Meeting -2nd place at the Delaware Valley Science Fair (2nd best senior project in the tristate region of PA, NJ, and MD) -2nd place at Bucks County Science Research Competition for Chemistry -2nd place for the Janssen Biotechnology Research Award -Chemistry Award from West Pharmaceutical Services -$15,000 Scholarship from Harrisburg University of Science and Technology
