Michael Covington is vice president of portfolio strategy at Jamf. He previously held leadership roles developing security products and technologies at Intel Labs, Cisco Security, Juniper Networks, and Wandera. Dr. Covington is a hands-on innovator and has broad experience across the entire product life cycle, from planning R&D to executing on product strategy. With a diverse background as a seasoned computer science researcher, an IT professional, and an effective product manager, Michael has experienced technology from all sides, and enjoys bringing new innovations to market, specifically in the areas of security and privacy. With eight patents pending and as the author of over 20 papers that have been published in leading academic conferences and journals, Dr. Covington’s research has explored formal access control models, cutting edge authentication techniques, and security approaches for pervasive computing environments. He is now focused on bringing next-generation security technologies to market that are both effective and a delight to the use. Michael received his Ph.D. and MSCS degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology’s College of Computing in Atlanta, Georgia. He also holds a B.S. degree from Mount Saint Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, Maryland. I was the product manager leading the development of advanced security services in Juniper’s security portfolio; my products included security intelligence, advanced anti-malware, UTM and other layer 7 firewall services. In addition to overseeing a team of product managers and their engineering teams, I was responsible for go-to-market execution and the marketing efforts that supported our security capabilities. My teams were responsible for launching Juniper's first two cloud-hosted security services. My role also included the development of a focused partnership strategy to support both active technical alliances and to build a potential M&A pipeline. I was a key adviser to executive management on technology ecosystem and market dynamics. I would frequently deliver product briefings to C-level execs and key customer influencers, technology partners, channel partners, field representatives and market analysts.
Develop Cisco's threat intelligence capabilities and deliver them to the market through multiple product lines, including the Next-Generation Firewall portfolio, E-Mail Security appliances, Cisco's Secure Web Gateway business and Next-Generation IPS products.
