Main responsibility, completing Tesla flagship line ‘GA Final Line 3’ in record time for Delivery Day event, used for Elon Musk and Olaf Scholz televised presentation. Model Y Full Conveyor Installation & Ramp Up Senior Manufacturing Engineer, General Assembly responsible for leading the full installation and expansion of all conveyor main and sub lines to achieve a 45sec cycle time. Lead a simulation team to create precise models for every line. Raised €10m RFQs for all additional equipment required and project managed full delivery, installation and commission. Including leading several high-speed vehicle trials with support from other departments. Lead project manufacturing engineer role Involved construction, MEP services, equipment and process engineering challenges. Working alongside Chinese, UK and European suppliers. Main & Sub Lines OEE Improvement Lead engineering team to analyse every major equipment breakdown in terms of MTTR and MTBF. Designed multiple improvements, presented detailed plan at director level for changes to be installed within complex shift pattern with no effect on production volume. Successfully bought off modifications to ensure all lines achieve the required 99% OEE target.
Front & Rear Subframe Knuckle Redesign Redesigned and managed full modification installation on both Front & Rear Subframe, main bottleneck lines. Improving OEE from 85% to 99%. Significantly increasing full factory output to achieve the 6K weekly production milestone target. EOL Area Installation & Commissioning Lead installation of a number of high precision ‘End of Line’ vehicle confirmation equipment in record time of 3 months, to achieve SOP target. First equipment to be fully bought off and commissioned within Tesla General Assembly.
2021 Qashqai Axle & Suspension Project Leader Lead NMUK cross department team to launch the factory’s principal new multi variant Front Sub Frame & Rear Member MIG welding lines. Lead a team consisting of 4 Process Engineers, 2 Facility Engineers, QA Engineering, Design Engineering, Production & Maintenance to deliver NMUK’s highest capacity suspension production line in plant history with 95% OEE. Manufacturing Plans Designed & optimised full manufacturing process for 420K mixed variant Front SubFrame line and 275K Rear Member Multi Link line. Managing cross functional departments to submit successful manufacturing plans competing against BOP at allocation, profile & contract submission stages to win £17m project budget for the manufacture of full Qashqai business. All submissions involved full optimization of E/T & CPU, presenting at VP level to gain validation within strict deadlines. Budget Management Managing budgets and predicted spend of full £17m project CAPEX & revenue line items. Writing engineering specifications, leading pre-bids, making complex VP level presentations & raising orders for all equipment. Team Management Managing NMUK team alongside contractors Serra, Fanuc, OTC & Lincoln in UK, Japan & Spain to launch new fully automatic line utilising new technology such as AGV (Auto Guided Vehicle) part transfer & jig-less welding, Nissan first. Tuning full process to optimise part quality alongside pressing supplier Gestamp.
Selected for relocation to Japan for a 22 month STA (Short Term Assignment) for personal training by Nissan Engineering leading Powertrain Production Engineering Division. Key objective is to learn and understand new technologies being developed and identify which can be utilised in NMUK to improve their global competitiveness. Role Involved: • Window person between UK and Japan. • Weld set and robot – Setup and development of Japanese supplier equipment. • CMFB – Commonising process & welding standard between Renault and Nissan. • Weld line design – Process flow calculation and line design for variety of components. • Alliance Standard Cell – Developing version 1 ASL cell to be used in Renault and Nissan. • Pulsar TV Link welding & bush press – Pilot plant first bush press and welding jig designed and quality setup by Nissan, Japan for mass production in Renault, France.
