Hello, I build electric motors that aren’t supposed to be possible while using deep Industry 4.0 methods driven by Design for Manufacturing and Assembly at the core with a little bit of augmentation in development by our proprietary AI engineering agents. At Modal Motors, my team is bringing to market the first motors that exceed rare-earth-magnet performance without rare-earth magnets — 17.5 Nm/kg+ torque density at higher peak and average efficiency than the best direct-drive rare-earth motors — engineered and made in the USA at a fraction of foreign competitors’ cost. USA sourced Rare-Earth motors are even more torque dense and powerful. Rare-Earth magnets are now an option and not a necessity. I’m an entrepreneur first, mechanical engineer second and develop deep AI agents to perform research and development in all of my processes. Over 25 years I’ve led the design, engineering, and development of electric motors, EV battery packs, drive-by-wire chassis, and the complete ground-up development of land, sea, and air vehicles — first running my own automotive engineering firm for over 20 years, then as a CTO and technical advisor helping startups raise capital and ship difficult to develop hardware. That thread of powertrain and motor work is what led me to establish Modal Motors in 2024. Today I’m focused on three major motor markets for the Air, Marine and Land Drone market, the Autonomous and Humanoid Robotics market and the Data Center Technical Cooling Pump market. My drive is giving USA manufacturers a reliable domestic supply chain partner that provides them an unfair advantage in their respective Global Markets. I’m a named inventor on multiple issued U.S. patents, with additional Modal Motors applications pending in the U.S. and internationally; we’ve secured State grants and a Federal Appropriation by working closely with the Centrepolis Accelerator at Lawrence Technological University and closed our Seed Round in 2025. Serving as Chief Innovation Officer, CTO and Chief Engineer and utilizing AI prompt engineering to lead the company in developing advanced technology products including consumer products, electric vehicle design, engineering, prototyping, securing supply chains and general product development. - Led the design, engineering, prototyping and development of a fully off-grid portable habitat and helped the client successfully raise their Seed Round and fabricated and deployed their Alpha and Beta units. - Led the design, engineering, prototyping and development of a portable energy storage system that utilizes repurposed EV battery packs in their entirety for emergency first responders and commercial applications including remote EV fast charging. - Spun out a new electric motor company that does not have to utilize rare-earth magnets and that has a torque density of 17.5 Nm/kg with higher efficiency than the best direct drive rare-earth motors. - Led the design, engineering, prototyping and development of an EV battery pack utilizing blade cells. - Led the design, engineering, prototyping and development of a Class 6 EV Medium duty truck that utilized a hybrid composite and cast aluminum chassis with complete Drive-by-Wire systems. - Led the design, engineering and development of an EV UTV (Side-by-Side) platform. - Leading the adoption and expansion of additive manufacturing with large and very large format 3D printers. - Responsible for Intellectual Property generation for the company and many of its clients. - Helped the company secure approximately $500,000 in State Grants. - Leading a team of up to 24 people in engineering, fabrication, assembly and design utilizing the principles of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly. - Leading the launch of Artificial Intelligence assisted product development and technology development.
