I worked with children everyday in low income areas in Philly. We were able to go play games and go to different places and read and do work with them. There was a lot of ski ball, shooting basketball, pinball, and many more. We also ate lunch and met some new friends and got a cool experience. While also getting a new perspective on how these kids lived and a lot of them from tough backgrounds and through hardships at such a young age.
As a lifeguard, I supervise the pool while enforcing pool rules for a safe and friendly environment. While actively guarding, I scan the pool and swimmers to ensure safety. Off stand, I check the pool's levels, make sure the chemicals are good and a safe level of chlorine is being pumped in and keep the pool deck clean and orderly. I also provide aid to any member in need. Their needs can range from first aid to a swim test.
As a swim instructor, I teach children how to swim for forty minutes to an hour for eight weeks. The eight weeks is considered one session during that time of the season, for example, early spring. Classes are split into Parent Child, Pre-School, and School Age. Parent child includes one parent in the pool with their infants where you are mostly just trying to get the infants used to the feel of water aging from 3 months to 16 months. While for Preschool this was a camp that took place at the pool I worked at is split into four stages based on skill level and this was normally what we would call “group lessons” so this was less 1 on 1 and School Age is the same except it is split into stages. I teach all age levels by demonstrating the swim skill.
During this summer I began landscaping for a company back home. We did large real estates while also just doing private properties and houses. This was something very new to me because there was a lot of new equipment and rules and protocols that I had to follow. It took time to adjust to the new owners and the larger estates but I eventually got the hang of it.
During the summer months, I worked with a group of about ten to fifteen children. There were multiple outdoor activities, including ropes courses and sports games, and we were able to swim for half an hour a day. I made sure that the children were safe and had a fun summer. Also, to keep the children safe.
