My mission: To undertake and contribute to high quality human factors and ergonomic research and teaching programs that support user-centred design, operation and evaluation of the road transport system to improve safety, comfort, efficiency, sustainability and ease of use. A major focus will be on human issues critical in the design and operation of an integrated road transport system and how these are likely to change as the road transport system becomes increasingly automated, connected and service oriented. My skills: - Specialist knowledge, skills and experience in transportation human factors and safety - BSc(Hons) and PhD degrees in Psychology and Human Factors My research interests: Data collection and analysis, crash investigation, road user behaviour, vehicle design, road design, traffic engineering design, design and evaluation of intelligent transport systems, including driverless vehicles, driver licensing, training and testing, human error, and fitness to drive (the effects on driving of drugs, alcohol, drowsiness, and distraction and inattention).
In my new role, post-retirement, I will continue to provide in-kind support to the University in my fields of expertise - transportation Human Factors and Road Safety.

Joint appointment between the Centre for Transport and Road Safety (TARS) Research, and the School of Aviation. Undertook road and aviation safety research, taught Aviation Research Methods to 3rd year Bachelor of Aviation students, supervised Hons, MPhil and PhD students, and sat on numerous university committees. Chaired Human Research Ethics Committee Panel H (Science and Engineering).
Research Director with IFSTTAR (previously INRETS) in Lyon, France, between April 2007 and October 2011. Undertook road safety research for France, the United Kingdom and the European Commission. Led and contributed to a number of research projects including the EC-funded FESTA, euroFOT, INTERACTION and 2-BE-SAFE projects, and the MINI E electric vehicle driver acceptance research project.
Honorary appointment with the Department of Applied Mechanics, at the Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden.
