As an Engineer I apply my specialist knowledge of engineering systems, methodologies, and processes to direct maintenance and engineering activities for heavy equipment machinery and mineral processing plants. I design bespoke and resilient engineering solutions, assessing site and operation conditions, carrying out design calculations and simulations, compiling failure reports, design concepts, feasibility studies, and cost estimates, and negotiating installation rates with engineering companies. I also implement asset management systems to maximize reliability and availability of production assets, assuring good governance and compliance with regulatory requirements, and steering the delivery of workstreams on time, to scope, and within budget. I graduated with a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from Central University of Technology, Free State in 2016, and obtained a Professional Engineering Technologist certification from Engineering Council Of South Africa in the field of Reliability Engineering and Maintenance. I have developed a combination of creativity and critical thinking, as well as exemplary communication and collaboration skills, that enable me to work effectively across professional boundaries and with internal and external stakeholders. I place a personal ethos of integrity, high performance, and lifelong learning at the heart of all professional activity, and I am always keen to explore new opportunities and challenges in the engineering field.

In my current capacity, I apply specialist knowledge of engineering systems, methodologies and processes to direct maintenance and engineering activities. These include reliability and availability implementation; failure analysis; and management of shutdown planning. A key component of my role is to design solutions to engineering problems, and I do so by assessing site and operation conditions; carrying out design calculations and simulations; compiling failure reports, design concepts, feasibility studies and cost estimates; and negotiating installation rates with engineering companies. Separately, I have defined and continue to oversee the implementation of an Asset Management Philosophy. This encompasses component life cycle replacement, as well as condition and operation performance monitoring. In a similar vein, I conduct Reliability Centered Maintenance analysis to assess functions and potential failures for physical assets. A key component of my role is to achieve target availability levels and business continuity around the clock, which I do by compiling labour scheduling and plant maintenance programmes. In a related vein, I lead the day-to-day activity of a multi-disciplinary team of staff, and assure good governance in the stewardship of organisational resources by applying life-cycle costing to negotiate favourable commercial terms when sourcing products, and ensure that SLAs with OEMs ensure alignment with client requirements and on-site operating conditions. At all times, I enforce compliance with legislation and industry standards, and promote a safe and healthy working environment. As part of this, I conduct robust risk assessment as the basis for selecting materials, components and systems, and compile checklists and report on areas such as component life cycles, safety performance indicators, tyre forecasts and failure modes.
