I was inspired to pursue a career in materials engineering years ago during a conversation with my cousin about a tragic passenger plane accident. After talking about its possible causes and the role of materials science, I did some research of my own, read everything I found of interest (which was a lot of material), and haven’t stopped since. The necessity of materials engineering is lost on many organizations, until a mistake is made that could have been prevented by having that expertise. Supporting others with the technical knowledge I’ve acquired is something I enjoy, and I look forward to developing a level of expertise in a specific area that makes me a valuable resource and problem-solver. I’m a rapid learner who is resourceful, curious, and determined to accomplish the tasks I set for myself. I have a breadth of knowledge and experience with both team and individual projects. I look forward to capitalizing on all these talents in a fast-paced environment that expects accountability, adaptability, and a true passion for the science.
When a corporate internship fell through, designed and completed an independent project driven by personal interest in aerospace: production of two cast aluminum jet engine turbine blade models. Planned, executed, and documented three project phases with a $200 budget, which was realistic with easy access to experiment-grade equipment and a limited scope of work that was suitable for hands-on learning. The three-phase project was completed ~two weeks ahead of schedule: ► Modeling: Selected A356 aluminum for casting and created a simple model for a mold from scrap wood. ► Investment Casting: Produced a silicon mold, wax model, and investment mold to cast a rough aluminum prototype. ► Sand Casting: Built a two-part, single-use mold, comprising a wooden containment unit, using the original wood model, and tightly packed sand to cast a superior aluminum part.
Conducted standard safety checks, monitored inventory and stock levels, and delivered solution-based service and product advisement to best meet customer needs.
