    I feel really honoured to have the opportunity to be able to work with Dr Omar Mahroo and his team at Moorefields and St Thomases hospital over the last year during my 3rd year Research project. My 3rd year research project, looks into the contribution of rod photoreceptors in full field ERG’s, with a focus on Vitamin A deficiency under the supervision of Dr Omar Mahroo and his team. Throughout this project I learned gained a number of skills including how to conduct a full field ERG on a patient, competency in Origin lab software, how to create and conduct new experimental protocol to isolate the function of a particular cell in the phototransduction pathway. I was lucky enough to also be able to attend the 45th annual Eyehope conference.       Cambridge Neurological society is a well established student run group that aims to encourage interest in neurology, neuroscience and neurosurgery. My role as publicity officer is to advertise our events, organise recruitment and publicity for the freshers fair and Clinical school fair.

      During my time we were able to expand the team from 7 to 30 members with our extensive publicity efforts before freshers. Our team had a large number of successes, from securing the top 6 places at the regional championships and taking the top 3 spots in the National championships. Our team also had the opportunity to perform with the MedSoc ball and Girton Spring ball.

    M3dicube Cambridge is a local branch of M3dicube, a national student-run organisation with the aim of inspiring greater interdisciplinary collaboration between all disciplines to increase awareness and make 3D printing an accessible tool to utilise in healthcare innovation and improving medical teaching. I am looking forward to my role as Treasurer in helping the Cambridge branch to expand to offer students of all disciplines to explore the applications of 3D printing in a Healthcare setting.

    I undertook a 10 week research placement research placement at Nemours Du Pont Children’s Hospital in Delaware (USA) supervised by Dr William Mackenzie. The project “A Natural History of Achondroplasia” focused on the factors that correlated with the progression of thoracolumbar kyphosis in patients with Achondroplasia.; with an aim to try to identify cases that would require later lumbar decompression surgery. During my time there I was also able to attend clinics, surgeries and morning conferences where I had the opportunity to interact and learn from various Paediatric orthopaedic surgeons.
