Interpret and fulfill clients’ requests. To search and catalogue any unpublished images, determining their commercial viability, and collaborating with sales teams to ensure that content selection meets or exceeds expectations and results in a sale. And then to finally scan these images to professional standards, including colour correction, provide full searchable metadata, publish them onto the Editorial website. As a Media professional for over 25 years I have plenty of experience completing numerous projects and research requests of different complexities. The nature of these requests could be as specific as locating stills of Prince Andrew with Jeffrey Esptein and Ghislaine Maxwell at Royal Ascot in the year 2000. Or finding stills of comedian Lenny Henry's first tv appearance on ITV ATV's New Faces in 1975. To much larger projects, taking several weeks, such as scanning better quality stills of the entire Brideshead Revisited tv series or searching the REX Fashion Archive for specific client requests. Achievements: Upon joining the Archive I discovered it had been closed for 3 months, moved to a new location and all previous stakeholders with key knowledge had left. Working initially alone, I set about creating an accurate Inventory list, began the process of rearranging collections into their precise order, and returned the department to a fully functional part of the company. Regularly involved in simultaneous projects of different complexities, such as locating stills of Prince Andrew with Jeffrey Esptein at Royal Ascot in 2000, Lenny Henry's first tv appearance on ITV's New Faces in 1975, to scanning quality stills of entire tv series such as Brideshead Revisited (1981), Emmerdale (1972-2002), The Prisoner (1967), and The Golden Shot (1966-1973).
Performed detailed cataloguing of ITN News bulletins and Channel Four News.
Responsibilities: As a BBC Archive Selector I cataloged and classified thousands of radio and television programmes from multiple genres (Comedy, Drama, Documentary, Current Affairs), transmitted on all 5 national BBC radios and all main BBC TV channels (BBC One - Four, CBBC and BBC News Channel), prioritizing workload to meet deadlines. I was responsible for editing 'metadata' of each asset I cataloged, extracting relevant aspects to create a synopsis for the BBC Archive database, Indexing or 'tagging' each asset according to BBC’s own taxonomy structure. As a News Actuality Selector I also curated current affairs audio 'Actuality' content (press conferences, interviews, sound of action) to be accessed and reused the BBC Archive. I regularly researched the BBC Archive database and other sources to ensure accuracy of programme metadata information and contributor identification. I was responsible for monitoring progress of the Archive team by maintaining Excel spreadsheets and reporting to senior management on completion of projects. I also trained and mentored staff, represented the Archive unit in public events and contributed to the policy development of the BBC Archive database, liaising with other departments and taking part on special projects such as the transfer of BBC master tapes from D3 to digibeta. Achievements: Successfully led the Archive team during the 2005 London bombing incidents which saw a 150% News Actuality workload increase as I coordinated team members in editing clips, creating metadata and cloning CD copies for immediate use by production with an incredibly quick turnaround. Compiled a 60 page report, for the consideration of management, on how to raise the profile and improve the usage of News Actuality by researchers and journalists, emphasizing how its uniqueness could assist in the quality and accuracy of the work of researchers and programme makers.
